5 Considerations in choosing a digital camera
The options in digital cameras have never been so numerous or so confusing! Large or small, compact or sub compact, video or not? Mega pixels, resolution, and memory alone can present an array of dizzying options! The choices that the potential consumer needs to make before buying a digital camera can be simply overwhelming. But by doing a little research and establishing what you want from a digital camera the consumer can then clear the path and make a decision that will provide him with the best possible digital camera for his or her needs. First the would be buyer should ask himself what he will be using the camera for. For example a digital camera that will be used strictly for travel needs will require different considerations than a camera being used to photograph sports action. Once the consumer makes this decision the following factors come into play-
1. Computer Requirements-You must have a computer that has enough memory and processing power to handle the large files from digital cameras. Each digital camera and the accompanying software have its own special requirements for processing and downloading. You must check the accompanying software that comes with the camera for the specific parameters needed. Also you need to check and make sure the entire system is compatible with the computer and whether the camera downloads through a USB port or a serial cable.

2. Picture Quality & Resolution- The sharpness of the picture is known as the resolution. This is measured through a unit called mega pixels. The higher the number of mega pixels the sharper the resolution and the better the overall picture quality. This should be a major consideration before the purchase of the camera. Most experts recommend purchasing a camera with at least 5 mega pixels.
3. Lens-The lens on the digital camera will mostly likely be an optical zoom lens. Some cameras are even equipped with a digital zoom feature. This should be considered when comparing different cameras. Digital zoom makes the pixels bigger which may reduce the overall quality of the image while optical zoom allows the user to zoom in on their subject while maintaining a high quality.
4. Storage Space-There is a wide variety of memory and storage space available for digital cameras. The most affordable and the most common are known as the Compact flash. While the camera will possess a small amount of internal memory before making a final decision to purchase you should check out what types of additional memory are available and how expensive it will be to upgrade the digital camera with it. Most digital camera users find that between 256mb and 1 GB is sufficient memory to handle all the picture-taking needs.
5. Price-This is perhaps the most important factor to consider before purchasing a digital camera. In today's market one does not need to pay a lot for a good digital camera. After deciding what the specific needs are in using a digital camera a good-entry level camera can be purchased for between $300-$700 dollars. This price range will give the user all the versatility, control and resolution needed for long-term use and enjoyment.
These five factors when considered can give the potential consumer the information to make a knowledge and successful digital camera purchase. In addition the consumer may want to consider how the camera is powered (rechargeable batteries are best), whether the LCD screen is large enough to view whatever they are photographing well and how big the camera is overall for ease of use and comfort. Then just go out purchase that longed-for digital camera and know that keeping your digital memories has never been easier!
