You need the extra cash specifically during the start up phase of your small or home business. This cash will go for buying your products, getting the correct licenses, purchasing any permits or insurance. If you do not have enough money to get all these things to start your business you may not be able to even start the business. Make sure when you are looking at how much money you need to start your small or home business that you have a good estimate of all the start up costs. You may need to budget higher for any unforeseen problems that may arise.

If you are beginning to have a sizable amount of money in your bank account you may want to look at other options to get more interest paid on that money. Disburse your money slowly but keep it coming in quickly.
Try to remember that inventory is not cash. You have paid for that item or items and not it is just sitting on your shelf collecting dust. You need to move your inventory as fast as it comes in. If you inventory is sitting then you are not having any cash flow. Try to forecast how much you expect to sell on any given day. Do not buy more then that forecast. For small businesses with more then one item you need to order the most of anything that accounts for more then 80% of your sales. Order only when needed. For those small or home businesses that are offering a service you need to only provide that service and use what you have on hand. Your mark up for those services should include what you pay and more.
