Expanding tips for small or home business

Your business has been thriving now for more than 3 years. You have outlived the failure rate of most small businesses failing within the first three years. Things are a running extremely well, and you've decided that it may be time to expand. Here are some tips for expanding your small or home business.

The first thing you need to focus on is increasing your unit of sales. For example, if you have a regular customer who spends $1000 dollars on your product monthly, then your goal should be to increase that sale as much as you can without losing that customer. There are several ways you can do that.

1. Compete with the competition. Get your business online. Create a website that potential customers can go to when they are surfing the net. Most people looking for services today will do it by using a search engine. A website will get traffic, which hopefully means more customers for you.
2. Increase customer spending. If you're end goal is to increase your number of sales, then you will need to do just that. Use your website to keep your current and potential customers informed. As long as they're happy with your business, they'll come back to spend more money.
3. Increase the frequency of your sales. A second way to expand your small business is to increase the frequency of sales. Instead of buying things once a month, what can you do so that your customers have a reason to buy something twice a month? For example, instead of selling one product for a certain price, you could offer two of that same product, for more money than just the one, but less than it would be to buy two of them. Many customers if they already know your business and trust you will jump at the chance to get more of something they already love for a great deal.

As you get more involved with getting your small home business online, you are allowing not just local people to view your product, you are expanding much further than that. You have just opened yourself up to the entire world. That is the beauty of the internet. Anyone in the world can have access to your business.

A second way to expand your small business is by direct mail advertising. This can be a highly effective tool in promoting your business. To begin, gather a list of potential customers for your mailing list. You can start with friends and family, and then branch out to colleagues you work or have worked with, friends of friends, neighbors on the block, etc. You can also find potential customers in your local yellow and white pages, newspapers, and even your local Chamber of Commerce. You get the picture. If you have a specific group you are targeting in your mailer, you will need to design your direct mail piece specifically to them. As your target market changes, so will the design of your mailer. It is extremely important though, as you compile your list of customers that you meet their needs. If you don't appeal to their needs, then your direct mail advertisement will be tossed into the trash!

I've given you just a few ideas of how to expand your small business. Probably the fastest way to expand your business is by increasing sales. As sales increase, so will your business. But, as you can see, there are different ways to go about doing that. It doesn't hurt to try a variety of different things. The more you can advertise, the more money you will bring in; thus creating business growth.
