First of all, what does it mean to find the right niche to start your home business in? A niche in this context sort of means your place; what's the best place for you to start your home business in? After all, there are thousands of businesses across the land, and thousands of home businesses across the land. If you don't have any ideas to start with, you can you find your own niche to start your home business in?

First, you might want to start thinking of things that you yourself would like to see up and running as far as businesses go. What's something in your own life that you'd like to hire a business for, yet none seem to be found? This might be the very niche for you. Let's say, for example, that your basement and attic are completely disorganized, a real mess, and you're just dying for an organized person to come in and help you organize. Funny as it may sound, this may be just the right niche for you to start your home business in.

To find out if this is the right niche to start your home business in, you'll have to do a little experimenting. I.e., clean your basement and attic; organize them; write down what you learn. What is effective organization as opposed to ineffective organization? How did you decide what to keep as opposed to what you decided to throw away? Think of it! You could do a job in your home that really needs doing, and sort of become an expert in it at the same time. Then you could use your expertise to start a home business. Oftentimes finding a niche to start a home business in means filling a void that you yourself regret exists.

Let's take the example of Joe. Joe is a young man; and he notices that a lot of his neighbors' lawns need tending. Joe doesn't need to look for his niche any longer; Joe's niche for starting a home business is right in front of his face. The next thing that Joe does is fill that niche by finding the right equipment, posing flyers for his services, and going to door to door handing out flyers and describing his services. If his neighbors' lawns are as bad as he thinks, he's sure to get work, and if he works hard and does a good job, he's sure to get more work.

All that Joe did to find a niche for his home business was look around. You can do the same thing (look around) by simply thinking of duties or tasks or services that you'd like to see in your own life and then attempting to organize a business that provides exactly those services. You'll simultaneously clear an area of your life that requires clearing and find a niche for your home business.

Another way of looking for a niche for your home business is simply by knowing what your talents are. What are you good at? How do you help your friends and family enjoy themselves more? Let's say you're a good cook, for example; come holidays, family and friends either flock to your house or invite you and your loved ones to flock to theirs. Presto, you've found a possible niche for your home business. Catering is a difficult business, but if you're good at it, if it's truly your niche, you can structure your business in such a way that soon you'll need to hire extra employees to take some of the workload off of you.
