Getting motivated to work when you work from home

It's easy to get distracted when you work out of your home, with all of the day-to-day activities that fill up life. If you are a stay-at-home parent, there can be even more distractions and things to pull you away from work. Sometimes work can seem like the least exciting thing to do - and it's often hard to get motivated if you don't have a boss or someone else pushing you to get work done. There are a couple of things which you can do to get motivated to work when you work from home. Here are a couple of tips which may work for you:

- Set goals for yourself: Goals are a great way to motivate yourself when you work from home. You should set goals for yourself, and have it clear in your mind what you want to accomplish. Making a variety of goals can help you to stay consistently motivated and look at "the big picture." For example, you could look into daily goals, weekly goals, monthly goals, quarterly goals, or yearly goals. Examine your own business and work ethic to see what kinds of goals will work best for you. Each business is different, but generally is good to set both short-term and long-term goals to help you stay motivated.
- Make a list of tasks to help you accomplish your goals: After you have goals set for yourself to accomplish, making a list of tasks can help you to stay further motivated. Sometimes even writing down these tasks on a piece of paper or board can help you to stay motivated, because it can help you to prioritize and realize everything that needs to be accomplished. In addition, it is a good idea to place the list of tasks in a place that you will see often - like on a refrigerator, office wall, bulletin board, or even as the backdrop for your computer desktop. By seeing your tasks, you will be further motivated and reminded of the work that you need to do in your home business!
- Pace yourself: Remember to pace yourself when you are making your tasks and your goals. If you give yourself too much work to do, or set unrealistic goals, it is easy to get discouraged. Try to avoid doing this - because when you get discouraged you won't be motivated to work! Instead, give yourself small, manageable tasks to do each day and to do each week. Also, always keep in mind that your business won't rapidly spread and expand overnight. Success comes by taking small steps, and by recognizing this, you'll be able to pace yourself and stay motivated to work!
- Reward yourself! Sometimes rewarding yourself is the best way to get motivated when you work from home! These rewards can come in a lot of forms, and you are the best one to decide what reward will motivate you the most. Some ideas for rewards are: candy bar, a relaxing activity, a small prize, or simply a quick break from work. However, a reward can also be something as small as a check mark or a sticker on your task list. If your rewards become too pricey and expensive, they can be counter-productive to the money that you are trying to earn. Make sure your rewards are modest but still a motivation for you!
These are just a few suggestions to help you get motivated to work from home. Hopefully these ideas will help you. Remember, though, sometimes you just need to buckle down and get work done - even if you don't really feel motivated or excited to work. And remember, by working hard, you will find success and you will be motivated to continue working!
