Home business pros and cons
A home business is often the best thing that someone can do! There are a lot of great benefits to having a home business. However, there can be some downsides to having a home business, particularly if you don't have the type of personality cut -out for having a home business. There are lots of pros and cons for having a home business, actually. Here are a couple of those pros and cons:
- PRO: You can be your own boss - When you have a home business, you won't have a boss telling you what to do all the time! Instead, with a home business you can set your own schedule and do what you find to be most important for business. This allows you to be more creative and innovative in your business approach. If you have some great business ideas that you're dying to try - go ahead and try them in your home business! There isn't any one to stop you or stifle your creativity!

- CON: There isn't anyone to keep you on task - If you aren't a self motivated person, you may find that your home business suffers without someone to keep you on task. You need to make sure that you are dedicated to working every day at your home business, or your business (and income!) will suffer. Think about what type of personality you have - will you be easily persuaded to go to the movies on a Wednesday morning, or can you sit down and make yourself work when you need to?
- PRO: You don't have to wear "work clothes" - Many people dream of having a job that doesn't require them to wear a suit and tie. Do you want that kind of a job? When you work from home, you can wear whatever you want, even your pajamas if you feel like it! If you have been spending lots of money on fancy clothes for work, then reconsider your job and think about a home business! Think of how much money you can save by working from home!
- CON: Home business require a lot of work - In order to get a home business up and running, you are going to have to put a lot of effort into your business. This may require some long hours, putting yourself on the line, or even doing things that you don't like doing (like cold calling or making contacts). If you have the drive and vision for your home business, then you will be able to succeed. However, many people do not realize how much work a home business can require, and their business ends up suffering in its early stages.
- PRO: Flexible schedule - One of the nicest benefits to having a home business is that you can have a flexible schedule. You are not restricted to the normal office hours of a regular 9 to 5 office job. Instead, you can work the hours that you want to work! With a flexible schedule you can spend more time at home with your spouse or children. In addition, if your spouse has a job, you can work your flexible schedule around your spouse's. This can be really helpful for families that have previously had to spend a lot of money on daycare. Stay at home with your kids and save money with your flexible schedule! A flexible schedule also is very convenient if you are caring for an elderly parent that requires part of your time.
