Here are the steps that you want to follow to help ensure you don't fall for a home business scam.
Step one:
If it sounds too good to be true than it probably is, meaning do not fall for it. Even though this would seem obvious to most people, it is amazing how good some of the scam artists are these days. These good scam artists are able to enlist the most intelligent people into their schemes because they make the opportunity sound too good to pass up. Most of the time what they tell you is that you will be able to earn a set amount of dollars in a set amount of time; usually it is a large amount of money in a short period. You want to be wary of these offers, especially if they claim little to no actual work is involved.
Step two:
Be wary of companies that are asking you for money. This doesn't mean that all companies that are going to charge you a fee to receive their start-up package is going to be a scam, however, any company that asks you to send them money so you can work is something to think about. If you are going to be working at home as an independent contractor you can find plenty of places that will not require you to pay money, all you have to do is invest your time. This is a good thing to look for because if you do not get paid anything you did not lose any money, all you lost was your time.
Step three:
Stay away from pyramid schemes. In fact, in most states pyramid schemes are actually illegal because of how many people have been financially ruined by them. A pyramid scheme is where people are responsible for recruiting other people to join the pyramid, usually for a fee. You are paid for recruiting people, not for selling a product. The worst thing about these schemes is that there are only so many people that you can recruit, so hardly anybody in the pyramid is going to make money, most people never even see one penny from joining these schemes.
Step four:
You also want to watch out for the stuffing envelopes and putting things together at home scams, these scams have been around for a long time, probably the longest of all of the scams out there. The troubling fact is that both of these scams are still showing up in legitimate sources for home businesses, such as magazines and newspapers. It has never been proven that you cannot make money from these scams, however, most people after they have paid the membership fee for the start-up kit, which includes supplies are told that they do not meet the "standards" of the company, which for these people is a waste of $25 to $45.
The best thing that you can do to make sure you do not fall for any of the home business scams out there is to educate yourself. The more educated you are about the home business scams that are around the better defense you are going to have against the home business scammers.
