When it comes to your yard, you want it to look nice not only for yourself but for the neighborhood. There are tons of people out there that don't have the time they need to dedicate to their yards after they move in. A good landscaper can come and design the yard to look a certain way and give it a beautiful look that really accents the house. Landscaping often consists of moving in dirt and rocks to change the look of the yard to make it look nicer. If you want a great at-home business, becoming a landscaper may be the perfect fit.

As you start your landscaping company, you will need to purchase a few things. You need to have a camera, a computer, a truck, and a web site. Your goal is to find people that need to re-do their landscaping or find people that need landscaping done altogether.

You will need a small office in your home to start your landscaping company. The office will be used when you meet with clients to talk about the different things you can do for them. It will also be used to meet with construction companies and trade-schools to find sites and areas that need some professional landscaping done.

Landscaping takes a long time to do and it does take a large time investment to get started. Just searching for the customers could take you weeks or months. Once you have the customers, you need to convince them to hire you and if you don't have much experience, this will be pretty hard. Now you have to spend time with the customer and come up with a landscaping goal for their yard. Depending upon the different things they want, it could take you a few months to finish one house, which means you will need to wait awhile for payment. You will also spend a great deal of time networking with sub-contractors and other people that do a lot landscaping help like stucco jobs, vegetation, and rock structures.

Depending upon the area in which you live and the demand for landscapers, you could make $50 a hour or you could make $20 an hour. Your reputation will be a big factor in how much money you can charge your clients. It also helps to add on additional services like incorporating a pool into the landscape and then getting a discount to purchase the pool through one of your contacts. On a scale of one to five, a landscaper will rate at a 2.5. The more you work and the more jobs you have, the more you will earn and this earning potential percentage will easily rise up a bit.

As with any business, the keys to success lie in your ability to get customers. How will you get customers if they don't know about your business? It is important to create a web site and use it. Post pictures of the sites you have worked from start to finish, this will give people a good idea of what you can do. Always take time to advertise your business. Online advertising is great, but you should stick with some newspaper ads, mailers, and flyers to get attention for your business.
If you hire employees, make sure you have insurance. Since your employees are working with heavy machinery and other things, you need to make sure you are fully protected in the case of an accident. Check your state and local laws to see if you need a business license and other regulations you need to know of before you start working.
