If you are only planning to offer a nail service, you won't need to devote a lot of room in your home to your company. Most nail services can be done from the kitchen or your living room. The best decision you will make is to convert one room into your nail room where you will work on your clients nails and also store all the different products you need along with a computer for billing.
The amount of time it takes to run a nail business all depends on the hours you want to work. If you don't want to work evenings and weekends, you will miss out on some clients. It is best to have an open-door policy with your clients so they know they can call you whenever they need, especially if they have a problem like a broken nail. Depending upon how extensive you want to get with your business, it should only take you about 30 minutes or less per customer. This is even to give them a pedicure or a manicure.
When you first break into the nail business, it will take awhile for your business to get set up and for customers to start coming. Most nail technicians will make around $35,000 a year. On a scale of one to five, working on nails will rank at a 1. This is because it will take a lot of work and dedication on your part to get your job up and running and from there you will need to continue this same level of intensity just to stay in business. Depending upon your location, you could make a nice salary of $60,000 or higher but you normally have to start work with another company to build your reputation first.
To establish your name in the nail industry, you need to advertise. A good client list will help you become successful and stay successful. You can build a good client list by working for a salon for a couple years and then branching out into your own business. Advertise your business online and in the local newspapers. Try to partner with some hair salons and other places where you could attract your target audience.
With any job, you need to check your local and state regulations to make sure you are in compliance with everything. Check to see what types of insurance plans other nail companies use so you can obtain some quotes. Insurance is a must-have as it protects you from clients that are upset with the work you have done and other problems that could arise.
