Otherwise, all you have to do is pay for a gym membership and a few necessary machines and you are on your way.
Materials needed:
- Gym membership
- Certification

Space requirements:
As a physical trainer most of your work is going to be at the gym, so you are not going to need much space at home. You will need a small office where you cans tore your paperwork and handle the business end of your home business. If you wanted you could build a home gym inside your house to use for physical training, which in that case you would need a decent sized family room to store all of the proper equipment.
Time requirements:
Working as a physical trainer is going to take a lot of time because you are going to need to work with people when it is convenient for them. Many people work on physical training either in the early morning before they go to work or in the early evening after the get off work, but before they go home for the night. It is not so much how many hours a day you will spend working, but rather what hours you will be working. The mornings can start as early as 5:30 am and the evenings can last until 9:00 pm.
Income potential:
3 ½ - How much money you are going to make is really going to depend on the area that you live in and how much effort you put into your home business. If you live in the Western States, you have a better chance at making good money doing personal training, if you live in the Central Northern Sates physical trainers are not in demand so you won't be as successful.
Keys to success:
- You are going to need to be a people person. The reason for this is that you are going to be working closely with people one-on-one for physical training. If you want to succeed, you need to get along with people, which mean knowing how to talk to people and make them feel at ease.
- You will need to be able to handle the odd hours that physical trainers work. You will be getting up early, as in 5:00 am to meet with clients before they go to work. You will also be missing a lot of family dinners because you will also be meeting with other clients when they get off work starting at about 5:00 pm. Most people are not looking for a physical trainer during the day because of work so you have to adjust your work hours accordingly.
- You also need to be able to motivate yourself to be successful as a physical trainer. If you cannot get yourself motivated to do things, there is no way that you are going to be able to motivate other people.
- Clients do not want to listen to what you have to say. As a physical trainer, it is up to you to get your clients motivated on becoming healthy and physically fit. Most clients do not want to do cardio and do not see why they have to do it, nor do they want to listen about nutrition.
- You also have to deal with clients that are disappointed in their results or the amount of time that it is taking to achieve the results that they want. Some clients will expect to see immediate results and when that doesn't happen they get frustrated or even lack motivation, so you are going to have to work twice as hard to get them back on track.
- Economy, slow months, and natural disasters can affect how much money you are going to make in a given month. Your income is never a solid income because if one client goes out of town you are not going to see that income for the month. If the economy slows down the first thing people do is stop spending money on the extra things.
