You should take these different advantages and disadvantages into consideration before starting up any small business of dog breeding. Here are some of the pros and cons for having dog breeding as your small business:

PRO - Dog breeding is lucrative: You can earn a lot of money being a dog breeder, particularly if you have rare dogs that are not easy to come by. Pure bred pups of different breeds can reach prices from a couple of hundred dollars to several thousand dollars! If you have a large litter of puppies, you might have a very large profit!

CON - You really shouldn't start dog breeding without training: Dog breeding isn't the type of profession that you should start without extensive training. Of course, many dog breeders do breed dogs without training, but this also accounts for some of the euthanized and killed puppies found in the world today. Really, it isn't smart to just put male and female purebreds together and PRESTO - have a business! There are a lot of things that you need to know if you want to become a professional dog breeder, and you really should to look into getting a license or training before you officially start your business.

CON - It is difficult to start up a dog breeding business: Unfortunately, it is very difficult to start up a dog breeding business. Even if you have dozens of friends and family members who say they will buy a pup from the first litter, it doesn't always turn out that way. And most smart dog buyers will not purchase pups from a breeder without asking for referrals and seeing experience. Remember, even veteran breeders often will not breed pups unless they have a cash advance for their unborn pups! You need to guarantee that you will be able to sell your puppies in order for your business to get off of its feet.

PRO - Dog breeding is very rewarding: When you are attached to your dog and love a certain breed, dog breeding can be very rewarding. It can be a very fulfilling experience to see the puppies that you love find good homes. It also can be a really awe inspiring experience to see the dog you love giving birth to pups. Many dog breeders are involved with breeding simply because it is such a rewarding experience.

CON - Dog breeding is expensive and time-consuming: Dog breeding can be a really expensive practice, not only in terms of money but also time. You will need to spend at least 2-4 hours a day taking care of the mother dog and her puppies after they are born. You also will need to spend money on vet services, food, unforeseen problems, emergency cesarean sections, stud fees, vaccinations, etc. If you don't sell the pups right away, you also might need to pay long term fees for the care of unsold pups.

So, as you can see, there are really great advantages and also disadvantages to starting up a small business of dog breeding. If you are really dedicated and determined to start up a dog breeding business, you definitely should! Just make sure that you will be able to overcome any obstacles presented to you. This way, your dog breeding business will be sure to succeed!
