Like all other home businesses, MLMs have their good and bad points. If you are considering choosing a MLM for your home business, you should do some basic research on the MLMs to find out about them. Specifically you are going to want to find out about the pros and cons of the MLM, so that you can decide if it is the right home business for your needs.

Here are some of the pros of MLMs.

  • MLMs have a very low start up cost, but the actual cost of the entire program is going to vary based on the MLM program that you choose. Regardless of the program that you choose you are going to have to invest some money in the products that you are going to be selling, how much you decide to invest is going to depend on how much of the product you want to have on hand.

  • Almost every MLM program that you join you is going to be selling a product that the company manufactures. In some cases, you won't need to worry about having inventory on hand because the companies will ship the product directly to the customer.

  • You do not need to have any prior experience, nor do you have to have a college degree. Sales experience is a plus because you will be making direct sales to people.

  • MLMs offer flexible hours, so you can choose what hours you want to work, how many hours you want to work, and what days of the week that you want to work. This means that you can take days off as needed without having to get approval from your boss because you will be your own boss.

  • You don't need to pay rent for office space or a large storage space because you can run everything out of your home, including storing inventory if it is needed.

  • Even if you only work part-time with the MLM, you can still make decent money, depending on how much effort you put in. The money that you make is considered leveraged income, meaning that you are earning money continuously from a single effort.

  • Here are some of the cons of MLMs.

  • You are going to be committed to purchasing a certain amount of product each month so that you can stay eligible in the MLM program. Before joining make sure that, you are confident in the product that you are selling so you don't end up wasting your money each month.

  • Not all MLMs are going to offer quality products, before deciding on a specific product you want to make sure that it is a quality product and that it is something that you will end up using. This will help ensure that you try hard to sell the product because it is something that you believe in.

  • Many MLMs ask you to write down a list of all of your friends, relatives, co-workers, etc. In other words, it is going to include all of the people that you know which can also be referred to as your warm market. Moreover, once you have established your warm market you are supposed to approach them first to try to sell your product and recruit these people into your line of business. The bad thing about this is that this can actually cause problems in your relationships with these people.

  • MLMs also require a lot of effort, energy, and motivation, which for some people can be a drawback. The reason for this is that not only do you have to keep yourself motivated but you are going to have to keep the people that you recruited motivated so that you can continue to make money off their sales. However, if you think of this as a business rather than just an easy way to make money you should be o.k. because every business is going to require a lot of effort and energy to keep it going.
