Reasons that you should consider a small home business if you are a mom

Most people would agree that in a perfect world children would have full time care from at least one of their parents. Unfortunately, this is not a perfect world and most families; even traditional two-parent families find that they need two incomes. For single parent families, the parent often finds that he or she still needs two incomes so they end up working two jobs and children are bounced around from caretaker to caretaker. There is a solution, or at least a partial solution, offered by work at home opportunities. Here are a few benefits of starting a small home business if you are a mom.

Staying at home-sure, you could go off to work and leave your children in the competent care of a nanny or other caregiver but some moms would rather be there in person. If you kid falls down and gets a boo-boo and you aren't the one to put on the band-aid and kiss it better, does that break your heart? If it does, you are the kind of mom that will be happier at home than in the office. By finding the right kind of home business, you will be able to have the best of both worlds: full-time motherhood and a lucrative profession that you are proud of. Your children will also have the best of both worlds: a full time mom and the financial advantages that come from working parents.

Flexibility-a home business offers flexibility that you will not be able to get in a regular office job. If you need to take the day off to chaperon your child's field trip, you can rearrange your schedule to accommodate it. If you are working in an office and you want to take the day off you will have to take a vacation day, if you are able to get the day off at all. With the flexibility of a home business, you can do things like work at night if your children need you during the day. Being able to work when you want requires a bit of discipline and if you tend to procrastinate, you will really need to watch this. As long as you are able to manage your time, the flexibility offered by a home business will benefit both you and your family.

Educational experience-your kids will learn more about business and the related disciplines by watching you run your home business than they will in any business class. Use your home based business as an educational tool to teach your children about all of the aspects of business, finance, and marketing. Let them be a part of the process and actively teach them about budgeting and money management. You can talk to your children about issues of honesty and integrity and they will learn what it takes to make it in the business world. Your home business can serve a number of purposes, it can put bread on the table, it can keep you busy and productive, and it can help you teach your children about real life.

The bottom line-finally, the small home based business that you start to stay at home with your kids might end up being a real moneymaker. With a home business, your income is largely a function of you. If you are super motivated, have good ideas, are careful with your money and work on growing your business, you might be better off than you would have been working for somebody else. You can focus on growing your business and you might just work it out that as your kids get older, your business gets bigger. By the time the kids don't need so much parenting, you might have a real moneymaker on your hands.
