Going green is not always an easy thing to do, but if you are looking for one of the best ways to cut your costs for your home business going green can save you hundreds of dollars each year. How much money you are going to be able to save with your home business is going to depend on how green you are going to want to go. The more time and effort that you put into going green the more money that your home business is going to save.

Here are some easy things that you can do to go green and cut costs.

Number one: Energy
You can do a variety of different things to help save energy, which will help lower your utility bills, and this in turn saves you money. One thing that you can do is to set your thermostat a few degrees lower in the winter and a few degrees higher n the summer to help you save on heating and cooling costs. You can also replace your old incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent ones when they burn out, the bulbs save energy and last longer, which helps save you money because you don't have to buy light bulbs as often. You should also unplug your appliances when you are not using them, or invest in a smart power strip that senses when appliances are not in use and cuts off phantom energy use.

Number two: Gas
Instead of spending money on gas for your home business, one thing that you can do is to walk or ride your bike to wherever you need to go. You can even add some type of carrier to your bike so that you can ride your bike to the store to pick up any supplies that you need.

Number three: Bottled water
Many people spend extra money each month buying bottled water when they are going to work; people even buy it for their homes. Instead of buying bottled water, you can invest in a water purifier to purify your tap water in your home for you to drink while working. You can also offer it to your customers that are meeting in your home. If you like to keep water in your office rather than getting bottled water you can get reusable water bottles, fill them up, and store them in your office. When you are, done using them simply wash them and fill them back up for the next workweek.

Number four: Buying furniture
Rather than buying everything brand new, you can use websites such as FreeSharing or craigslist to find new or gently used secondhand products free or for cheap. You can also look at garage sales, thrift stores, or consignment shops for items that you would use every day or for furniture. You can create a cozy office space simply using stuff that other people do not want or need anymore. At times, you can even find stuff that people are getting rid of for free. If you do have to buy something for your home office that is brand new, you do not want to buy something that is cheaply made because you will end up replacing it sometime soon. Instead, you want to buy high quality, long-lasting products, so they won't have to be replaced as often as the cheap ones.

Something else that you can do to help your business go green is to recycle everything that you can. Instead of simply throwing away old computer paper, save it for scratch paper or for printing stuff that you do not need to send out to customers. Going green means thinking about the small things that you can change to save money and use less of our resources.
