Like many other types of home based business opportunities MLMs have both their advantages and disadvantages. So before you decide to join a MLM you should take a look at the pros and cons of MLMs to help you decide.

Here are some of the pros of MLMs.

  • One of the best things about MLMs is that they actually have a very low start up cost, but the actual costs are going to vary depending on the program that you choose. But regardless of what program you choose you are going to need to invest money in the products that you are selling, how much you have to invest can be a large amount each month or a small amount.

  • Another benefit of MLMs is almost every program that you join you are going to be selling a product that the company manufactures. And the best news is that the company will actually ship it to the customer directly, so you don't have to worry about any kind of inventory all you have to do is make the sale.

  • Another great benefit about joining a MLM is that you don't have to have any kind of college degree nor do you need to have any kind of prior experience.

  • MLMs are also a great home based business opportunity because they offer flexible hours. Basically you can choose what hours you work, how much you want to work and when you want to work. The best part is you can take days off whenever you want to or need to.

  • You can also run the MLM right out of your home, you will not need to pay rent for office space nor do you need a large storage space.

  • If you don't want to work the MLM as a full time job you can run it only part time and still make pretty good money.

  • Business plans and marketing plans are already taken care of; these are already prepared by the company that you are signing up with.

  • The money you make is considered leveraged income, which basically means that you are earning money continuously from a single initial effort.

Here are some of the cons of MLMs.

  • One of the cons about signing up for a MLM is that you are going to be committed to purchasing a certain amount of product each month to stay eligible in the MLM program. So you want to be sure of the product that you are going to be selling.

  • Not all products are going to be quality products, so before you decide on a certain product you are going to want to make sure that it is a quality product and that it is something that you are going to end up using that way you are not wasting your money.

  • Another bad thing about MLMs is that numerous programs ask you to write down a list of all of your friends, relatives, co-workers, etc basically all te people that you know, which is called your warm market. And once you have established your warm market you are supposed to approach them first to try and sell your product and recruit these people into your line of business. The bad thing about this is that this can actually cause problems in your relationships with these people.

  • Another thing that can be a drawback is that MLMs can require a lot of effort, energy and motivation. The reason for this is that not only do you have to keep yourself motivated but you are going to have to keep the people that you recruited motivated so that you can continue to make money off their sales. But if you think of this as a business rather than just an easy way to make money you should be o.k. because every business is going to require a lot of effort and energy to keep it going.
