Tip #1: Set up a functional work space
Most men are generally use to going into work and having their own office space, or at least a cubicle that they can call their own. The best advice a man can take if they decide to work from home is to set up their own work space. Just because you are working at home doesn't mean you should be working in bed all day. Try to simulate as much as possible the same type of work environment. Try to find a space in the home that is separate from everything else; an empty bedroom, a quiet corner in the family room, etc. Setting up your own work space is important to the success of your home business.
Tip #2: Establish a structured work schedule
Some people assume that when you work from home your schedule can be as flexible as you want it to be. While this is somewhat true, you still need to plan out your days the same as you would if you were working in the office. Schedule appointments as well as time that you will be working in your home office. If you get out of the daily structure you are likely to get out of business mode. The best part about working from home is that you can be flexible with your schedule.
Tip #3: Consider a baby sitter
If you are a single dad with kids still at home, and have decided to work from home to spend more time with family, you are probably going to need a baby sitter. While most of us think that we can do it all by ourselves it's just not realistic. You won't be able to get any work done with kids crying in the back ground trying to get your attention. Hiring a sitter is the best thing you can do for your business. You will get your work done much faster and then be able to spend time with your kids. Unless you want to do all your work at night, get a sitter.
Tip #4: Be Professional
Don't try and stay in your pajamas all day long and get work done. You are running your own business, so dress and behave appropriately. Get up, shower, shave, and look professional. You don't have to wear a shirt and tie, but look clean and get ready for the day. You will feel better and be able to do a better job at running your home business. It also makes it easy if you have to go meet a client last minute that you can run out the door at a moments notice.
Tip #5: Don't over do it
Starting your own business will take a lot of time, but don't over do it. Take some time for yourself every day whether it's to sit and meditate or to go and lift weights. After all the reason you decided to work from home was to see your family more right? Although it can take a lot of time, don't forget the reasons you decided to do it.
Hopefully these tips for men who want to work from home will get you started on running your own home business.
