Raising a family and working isn't easy. That's why so many Americans today have decided to start their own business and work from home. There are many different work at home opportunities; finding the right one for you is the key. Here are some of the top work from home jobs for you to take a look at and maybe even try them out.

Call Center Jobs
You've probably seen several different all center jobs that you can do working from home. Before you accept a virtual call center job you need to thoroughly check out the company to determine how it operates and how or if you will actually get paid. Here are some tips to help you decide whether or not it may be a legitimate business:

  • Most call center jobs require you to have certain types of equipment; a phone line and an operating computer system that is compatible with the company's technology.

  • Many of the legitimate call center jobs will provide free training. All the information should be available on the company web site or they should provide you with a phone number. Don't accept a job that is going to cost you hundreds of dollars in start up costs.

  • B realistic about how much you should be earning. Any company that claims you will make large amounts of money in just days is bogus.

The drawbacks of a job like this are that it usually only pays about $8 an hour and that is assuming you get enough calls. Call center jobs also will not tolerate audible distractions so a crying baby or barking dog can literally get you fired.

Taking surveys
Taking online surveys is another job that you can do from the comforts of your own home. There are several companies out there that you can use to earn some extra income each month. Survey taking is easy to do and doesn't require a lot of your time, however you won't get rich using a work at home job like this. It is basically used to supplement the income you're bringing in. A company called Survey Bank has over 500 companies that will pay you for your time to complete online surveys.

Starting a Web business
One of the best ways to supplement your income and even take over your 9-5 job is by starting a web business. Being online can take your job global and give you access to people all over the world. Most web businesses however take longer to get started than you would think so don't expect to be making money over night. You might also need to consult with someone who knows a lot about web management and the internet to help get your business to the top of the search engine.

Mystery Shoppers
Mystery shopper jobs have been around for a long time, but the internet has made finding them much easier. Typically most mystery shopping jobs are paid anywhere from $5-$100 per assignment. Taking part in focus groups can get you paid higher. You have to prepare yourself when you start out that you will not be making large amounts of money and they take some time to generate any type of income.

Working from home definitely has its advantages, but you will find that most jobs still require some work and won't bring in the income you need for quite some time. These are just a few of the top work from home jobs. Before you start any work at home job make sure you do your homework; don't get scammed into something that will just take your money and run.
