If you own a small home business you probably feel like everyone is out to get you. Large companies have far more capital and power than you do. They have the money to advertise and influence in politics and social life. They can also higher an entire crew of trained specialists to help them in anyway they need. Furthermore, most small home business owners feel that the government is also out to get them. It is difficult enough to try to develop a small business with limited resources, but when you are hit with heavy taxes it might feel impossible. Furthermore, small home businesses have to deal with strict zoning laws and they must acquire a business license like any other business. If you feel that your small home business has no support from government, or anyone else for that matter, consider investigating the resources offered by the US government for small home businesses.

Believe it or not but there are many, generous resources offered by the US government for small home businesses. The government is not out to get you-far from it, they like to support business in whatever way they can. It is as much in the government's interest as yours to help small businesses become strong. Stronger small business means more tax dollars and more US economic success.

Some of the resources that you can draw on are both financial and information based. The government has two very useful websites that will help you to navigate the complicated world of small businesses. These are the SBA website (http://www.sba.gov/). The SBA, or Small Business Administration, has one purpose, which is to support small businesses. The site has lots of great information about taxes, employees, and business advice. It could provide suggestions for improvements that you might not have even thought about.

The other website is less specifically designed to help small business owners, but it does provide some information. This is the government's general business website (business.gov), which provides essential information about business.

The resources that few people know about are federal grants for business development and expansion. If you think you have a really great idea there is a chance that the government wants to support you in some way. As mentioned previously, great businesses benefit the country tremendously, creating wealth, jobs, and international prestige. These grants total something like 25 or 30 billion dollars. There are other resources the value of which totals several hundred billions of dollars. Few business owners know anything about these grants so you might be able get some of the money for your small business.

Some people assume that there will be too much red tape involved in getting a grant, but who cares when the money is free. An injection of federal cash could dramatically affect your business for the better. Can you imagine what fifty thousand dollars might do for your small home business. There is so much money in federal grants that if every business in America were to apply and qualify for one, each would receive something like sixty thousand dollars.

Do not assume that you can get federal money, but it would probably be worth a try. Realize that federal money comes with definite strings attached; you have to account for how all the money was spent and report this information to the government. If you are willing to put up with these sorts of restrictions then a federal grant or loan might be for you. If your small home business is struggling it would be worth a try.
