Space requirements:
To teach violin lessons from home you are not going to need much room because it will be just you and one student at a time. The biggest problem that you are going to face is finding an area that is private enough to give your students lessons without your family being in the way. Your best choice is to use a spare bedroom as a music studio to give your violin lessons, but you can also have your basement renovated into a music studio to give music lessons in. The room is going to need to fit a few chairs, a music stand, and have a place to store the instruments and supplies when they are not in use.
Time requirements:
How much time you put into your business is going to depend on how much money you want to make and how much time you want to spend working. In teaching violin lessons you can work part-time or full-time based on your own needs. You are going to be the one in charge of determining how much time is going to be required so you can achieve your goals. In addition to scheduling time for your violin lessons with students, you are also going to need to set aside time to advertise your business and to keep current on your bookwork. You are going to want to spend a little time each work advertising your business, until you have enough students to achieve your goals, but you will still need to do bookwork on a weekly basis so you stay on top of it.
Income potential:
3 - You can make a good income giving violin lessons to children and adults, but they are not as popular as other music lessons. If you plan to make money with violin lessons, you are going to have to work harder on giving lessons than you would need to with piano lessons. However, you can still make just as much per lesson, most of the time you can charge $50 to $100 per lesson, but you can also charge per hour if you would rather go that route. Even though you are making the same amount as you would with piano or other music lessons you will need to work harder to attract students.
Keys to success:
- •\ You are going to need to be able to play the violin really well. You will need to be a master at playing the violin so that you can teach students of all different levels. The better you are the better your chances of attracting more students in higher levels who need to fine-tune their skills.
- You are also going to need to be able to teach the fundamentals of playing violin, which includes reading music and caring for your violin. These skills are going to be mostly taught to your beginning students, but sometimes your older and more experienced students need a reminder course or two.
Risks:
- Your biggest risk that you will face in this business is your students not showing up for their lessons and not bothering to call ahead of time to cancel the lesson. This usually means that you will lose the money for that lesson; unless you have, it stated in your contract that lessons must be prepaid three weeks in advance.
- Another risk that you face in this business is your business not attracting any new students. If this is the problem you are going to need t market your business better to attract students.
