The following are a few ways to have time for a life, even if you run a small or home business.
Take care of yourself. It's important to take care of yourself physically and mentally if you're going to have time for your business as well as an outside life. This includes making sure you get at least 8 hours of sleep, exercise regularly, and eat healthy. If you do these things, you will notice you have more energy not only for work but for your outside life as well.
Give yourself vacations. Your business should be no different than if you were working for a company. Give yourself vacation time and use it. During this time, try as much as possible not to work and make it an actual vacation away from work.
Limit your time spent on work outside of working hours. If you find yourself checking your emails, voicemails, and other business related things after hours, it can be difficult to have time for a life. Instead, limit the time you spent on work things after a certain time. For example, say your work day ends at 6 every evening. After that time, make it a rule to only check your work emails or voicemails once. Stick to this rule.
Schedule social time. Whether it's date night once a week with your spouse or going out with your friends, make sure you have at least once a week where you can get out and have a life.
Get organized. Making sure you are organized in your home business can make it so you have more time overall for your social and family life. Organize your filing system in the office and on the computer, and make daily task lists to help you prioritize your tasks.
Delegate your work. If you are not the only person running your business, or if you have employees, make sure you delegate work to them. Even busy work, such as returning phone calls or mailing ads, can save you a great deal of time so you can still have a life.
Prioritize. One way to keep things in perspective and have time for a life is to organize your priorities. If your family and friends come first, make sure you put their needs and having time with them ahead of your business.
Give yourself a day or two off. The best way to have time for a life when running a small business is to make time for it. That means for a day or two a week, whether it's the weekend or some other time, you give yourself time to pursue your interests and hobbies outside of your business. That way, you won't get burned out and you will still be able to enjoy your friends and hobbies.
Running a business is time-consuming, but there are many ways you can make sure you still have a life while running your own home business.
