Ways you can promote your product or service for less when you run a

The following are some great ways to promote your product or service for less when you run a small or home business:

Business cards and stationery are inexpensive and some internet print shops even give 250 cards that you design, for the cost of shipping but printing is free. A business is a professional promotional tool.

The use of these cards are generally limited to people you see face to face.

Rubber stamps or staples are for routine office use and should not be used in with the business cards. Advertising specialties such as pens, key rings and calendars show your goodwill in the form of a small gift, but these do not give enough personal or business information.

Many small businesses prefer local newspaper ads, because they provide much more exposure to many readers and are more flexible to your company budget. You can date an ad for a certain month or weekend so customers will see discounts on a 3 day week end for example.

If you use a coupon you can readily count the number of customers who come in or call about your coupon ads. You can almost perform your own market survey or product survey. You can use a scale of prices per item to see which price brought in the most sales. Readers can get more than one type of information from your ad from the same message.

Brochures inform your customers about a wide range of services, and posters catch the buyer's eye to trigger them and inspire them to seek your store for your products or services. The packaging of your product can validate ingredients, make assertions about high quality, explain how to use your product and influence the customer's buying decision. Brochures, posters and packaging are cost effective ways to provide eye appeal to a customer.

Catalogs are used by the large companies and are expensive; they are designed for specific markets like home buyers, fishermen, gun owners etc. Magazines are more expensive than newspaper or radio, and have the advantage of a more specific readership, like teens, women, crafters, etc.

Business pages in the yellow pages of your telephone book provide a link to the shopper. Who has not heard the statement "Let your fingers do the walking through the yellow pages?" So often customers will grab a phone book when away from their internet and computer. Large numbers of consumers do not have computers and do not want to learn how to use one. Typically the older shoppers still spend dollars on products like yours. It is a good idea to get your product in front of them so the can find you.
The toll free 1-800 or 1-888 and other toll free long distance services invite buyers outside your neighborhood to call about your offer or to inquire about your service.

More cell phone owners are using that media for shopping. Increased use of cellular telecommunications is expected to open doors to new methods of marketing. For a couple dozen years fax machines in homes and offices have been used to inform regular customers of `in group' seminars, sales and deals for regular customers only. Often the general public never hears about these sales.

Radio is cost effective and the audiences are routinely loyal to a station's program sponsors. Disk Jockeys or DJs will come to the site of a business and broadcast from the location, giving the next `100 shoppers' a whatzit for coming to the store. Radio messages tend to make your company a part of the broadcast by their favorite radio station. It is mind boggling how many listeners can come into your store and repeat sword for word, the advertising they hear every evening at 10PM etc. Repetition of an announcement 6 times is proven in college studies, to cause a listener to memorize that announcement.

Television captures more audience time than any other medium and it has the powerful advantages of visual impact. The TV commercial is targeted at a home audience in a relaxed and suggestive atmosphere. The TV remote control has changed viewing habits such that commercials are now grouped in clusters of ten and fifteen second shorts.

You can find an increasing number of online directories that are available. You can list your business on these also. You can advertise in an online telephone and web directory service that includes information on area codes, white pages, business pages, local web sites, international company listings and e-mail addresses.
