- Drive and Desire. The work from home dream begins with a desire to actually start the business. Without the desire you will find yourself out of business quickly. You have to find an idea that you are passionate about and then need the drive to get it going. When you start your own home business, you don't have an office full of employees cheering you on. You may have a few family members or friends, but basically you're on your own. You need to be a self starter.
- Patience. Running your own business at home takes a lot of time and energy. Things don't always get kick started the way you want them to; financing can be hard to obtain and sometimes falls through; family members may not be supportive. The list could go on and on. Patience is a much need virtue when you're starting your own home business. Without you might actually drive yourself crazy waiting for things to fall into place.
- Flexibility. Running a home business requires a flexible personality. There are ups and downs in any business; however the success of your company depends solely on you. You have to learn to roll with the punches. When things get tough you have to be ok with changing your plans and figuring out other ways to get done what needs to be done.
- A positive disposition. If you are a pessimist then starting your own home business won't be your thing. In order to stick it out through the highs and the lows you have to have a positive attitude about life. There will always be things to bring you and the business down, but with a positive attitude you can figure out ways to change your approach.

- Technology. We live in a technologically savvy world. Owning a computer with internet access can help your business get started and grow. With the internet you have access to millions of people all over the world. There is so much potential in technology that it would be killing your company not to learn about it and get online.
