Clip coupons for the grocery store

Groceries get expensive, not only do you have the high cost of food, but you also have items like cleaning products, diapers, bath tissue, etc. to add to the bill. One great way to cut the expense of your groceries down some is to take advantage of coupons.

First, before you ever go shopping make a list of the items you are going to buy, then spend a few minutes to see if you can get coupons for those items. If you scan your list and determine if you can save money on each item, you will cut your grocery bill down significantly.

So, how can you find coupons for the items on your list? Try the following:

Start by looking in the ads for the week. Most grocery stores will honor coupons offered by other stores, so if you see something you need on sale at one store, but plan to visit another, take the coupon with you, and ask them to honor it.

Second, check online. A quick search online will bring up some great results. You can simply type the item into google with the word "coupon" behind it, and you will likely find something that will work for you.

Third, consider using manufacturer coupons. You can visit the manufacturer's website of products you like the most, such as visiting General Mills site for the cereal you like the best. They often have printable coupons right online, or a notice of where you can get coupons for their products.

Fourth, look in the Sunday paper. The newspaper is going to have coupons on all kinds of items, from cleaning supplies and toiletries to cereals and sodas. Sometimes you will find coupons for a brand you do not use, but if it saves you a lot of money, it may be worth trying it out.

Fifth, consider joining a coupon club or group. There are several online, and while they have a cost, the savings you can get from them usually outweigh the cost, and most have a guarantee for satisfaction so if you find you are not saving enough to recoup the cost, you can get your money back.

Coupons only save you a little bit here and there, but do not let that be a reason for you to not use them. A little here and there can turn into a great amount, especially over the course of a year. For example, if you have a baby and are buying diapers, imagine how much you would save if you used a $1 off coupon each time you made a diaper purchase. It would probably be close to $40 a year. Add that to saving here and there on bath tissue, cereals, and other items and you are looking at several hundred dollars saved each year just by putting forth a little effort to cut a few coupons out and remembering to give them to the checker at the grocery store.
