Five budgeting tips

Budgeting can be somewhat intimidating and confusing at first, however there are five budgeting tips that will help your budget be a sure win.

1. When you create your budget at first, keeping it simple and basic will be your best bet. The basics will be enough to get a good idea for tracking purposes. After you have tracked your spending for a couple months, then you will be able to create a more detailed budget. The starting list should include these items; rent or mortgage, utilities, car payment and expenses, medical insurance, car insurance, credit card payments and any other set bills that have a set amount for a certain amount of time.

Gather all of the income you have coming in. This is going to be the paychecks, child support, alimony, dividends etc. This does not have to be an exact amount, however if you are going to average it out, be sure to average it on the low end of the estimated amount.

2. Now you will want to look at all that you have listed in bills and in income and see what you have as far as debt to income ratio. This means take your total income, and take your total debt and compare it. Here is the basic equation:

Income $2000 Bills $1600 and then you subtract the bills from the income, equaling $400 left over.

3. Pretty simple, however it never works that simple. Things come up that interferes with the budget. That is why the next tips is so important. Plan your budget loosely. This means to not plan out your money to the penny. So many things can occur and in the beginning steps of a budget, you are not prepared for those unexpected expenses.

With the budget open a little you will not be forced into deviating from the base bills that you have planned and are working to play. This will get you in the habit of spending within your budget and also make it so that you can start a tracking process.

4. The next tip is to track your spending. You need to track all the spending you do, for the most part. This means track the bills you pay, and when. Track the spending on groceries, fuel or gas, emergencies, medical expenses and any other significant purchases.

This step is key because as you revamp your budget in a few months, you will know what money you will need, where you can cut back and what you have spent your money on.

5. The last tip is to take the time to give you the time to learn budgeting. You will probably not be highly successful at first. This is why the basics is the best idea at first. Then once you have been able to accomplish the basics, a couple months later you will add the more detailed spending and you can plan down to almost the exact amounts.

This will include savings for retirement, homes, college, and emergencies. Also, you will be able to plan out the expenses for food, clothing etc. However you have to know what you can afford to do, and that is why tracking will be so important.

Keep these five budgeting tips in mind while you are creating the budget that will help your overall financial growth. This will help you to be successful faster and more confident in your budgeting and spending.
