How to afford big purchases

At some time in our life we will need to make some kind of a big purchase, but unfortunately not all of us can afford these purchases out of pocket. So when we are faced with having to make these kinds of purchases we often wonder how we are going to be able to afford these big purchases. The good news is that there are numerous things that we can do to afford these big purchases.
Difficulty rating: Easy to moderate
Step one:
The first thing that you are going to need to do is to think about what it is you are purchasing and when you are going to need to purchase it. Basically what this means is that sometimes we have unexpected expenses that we have to meet right away, but many times we can actually plan for future purchases.

Step two:
If this is a purchase you can buy in the future then one of the first things that you want to do is to set aside any of your unexpected bonuses or any unexpected cash towards that purchase. Many times at work or even lawsuits give us cash that we are not expecting that we can use towards that kind of a purchase.
Step three:
You can also set aside any of your tax rebates or even tax refunds that you expect to receive from the government. The government actually encourages us to put this money back into the economy so that we are helping our economy but rather than wasting it on little things we should save it towards that big purchase we need to make.
Step four:
Rather than rush right out and buy a big item we should actually try and delay buying that item. Basically we need to give ourselves time to rethink that purchase and decide if it is something that we have to have or if we can actually get by without it for awhile. This will help us save our pocket book but it will also allow us time to save up the money for the item rather than putting the purchase on our credit card or something similar.
Step five:
Something else that you are going to need to do in order to afford big purchase items is to actually prioritize your spending. Basically what this means is that you are going to need to sit down and look at how you are currently spending your money and then figure out what you can spend less money on, basically stop spending money on the small trivial things that you don't care about and then save that money for the item that you really want.
Step six:
Another thing that you can do to help you afford those big items that you are wanting to buy is to actually earn extra money. There are many things that you can do to earn extra money including working some overtime at work or even shoveling driveways in the winter. But whatever it is you can't be afraid to work hard for what you want. Once you have earned the extra money you need to set it aside for your item.
Step seven:
You can also clean out your house and sell the items that you no longer need. Basically that saying is true that is one person's trash is another person's treasure so try cleaning out that closet and selling those items on websites that offer free listings or you can even have a garage sale to try and get rid of those items.
Step eight:
One thing that you want to avoid doing at all costs is to use those rent to won companies. The reason for this is that they are going to cost you an arm and a leg just for a single item. Instead you should try to save up the amount that you would pay each week until you can afford the item or look into a layaway type of program, which is even better than credit because you won't get the item until it is fully paid for.
