How to benefit from credit card promotions, sky miles, etc.

One of the things about credit cards that seem to draw people in is that so many of them offer perks for signing up for the credit card. As a consumer you probably are already aware of what I am talking about. Everyday you get numerous credit card offers in the mail, in your email, etc. Because there are so many different credit cards out there the credit card companies have to figure out ways to try and entice you to sign up for their card. If you don't know what I am talking about you can easily find out by searching for credit cards on the internet. You will get back over thousands of results and all of them will offer some kind of promotion.

Regardless of if you have excellent or bad credit you are probably receiving these credit card offers and sometimes it is hard to say no. This is one of the reasons that so many people get into financial trouble because they overspend. In today's world it is really easy to overspend because of how easy it is to get a credit card. You have probably received credit card offers that state you are pre-approved for a certain credit amount even with bad credit and while this might seem great, that is not always the case. If you take the time to read the fine print you can find out that the offer is based upon your credit report, which means that you can still get turned down.

Other credit card promotions offer 0% APR, no annual fees, low interest rates, free sky miles, money back on your purchases, and the list goes on. While these offers are great to get you signed up and can provide you with some great benefits you should still read the fine print to see how long these credit card promotions will last and what the terms and conditions are. Many times you will find that the 0% APR is good for a certain period of time, and even though you might be getting cash back on your purchases does it really make that big of deal when compared to the interest rate you are paying. Another thing is that some credit cards will offer a low interest rate for the first three months and then raise the interest rate to a much higher rate. Knowing the terms and conditions for these special promotions can help save you a lot of confusion and anger later on.

Just because there are certain terms and conditions for these credit card promotions doesn't mean that you can not benefit from them for the time period that they are in effect. For example say you have one credit card that you have a $300 balance on and are paying 15% interest. Now in the mail you receive a credit card promotion that offers a low interest rate of 5% for the first six months. You can benefit from this card by accepting the card and paying off your old credit card with your new one and paying your new one off within two or three months, doing this will save you money from high interest rates.

Another way that you can benefit from credit card promotions is through sky miles. Credit cards that offer you so many miles per dollar spent is a great way to save money if you happen to travel a lot. Sometimes you can even combine these miles with frequent flyer miles from the airlines themselves, so paying for your airfare with the credit card can build up your miles even faster.

Just remember that even though these credit card promotions provide instant benefits doesn't mean that you should sign up for every card that comes your way. Take your time and read the fine print to be sure that the credit card promotions will benefit you in the long run.
