Overspending is easy to do even after you have taken the time and sincere effort not blow your budget. Even if you do blow your budget one month, there are still ways to keep from overspending until you find yourself in a better position. Knowing that accidents can and will happen should prepare you to come up with ideas. Here are some simple ways to not overspend even after blowing your budget. Let us go through a list of hypothetical budgets that are commonly made every month and can easily sneak up and take over your budget.

When school starts and you have kids at home, your normal budget that you have for your family will be completely blown out of the water with school supplies, clothes, and everything else that will be needed to go through the school year. One way not to overspend when you are not prepared to put it into your budget is to shop with coupons. Look for the sales and shop at stores that have lower prices. Shopping at department stores rather than name brand boutiques for clothes will save you so much money on clothes you won't know what to do with yourself. The same goes with supplies. If you go to an office outlet that is having a sale, the school supplies will be bought with a fraction of the cost of going and buying them from stores that don't specialize in office supplies.

If you have blown your budget on an expensive dinner and you don't know what to do about food for the rest of the month, again, think sales and coupons. Think of foods that are really filling and don't cost a whole lot. Noodles, potatoes, mac and cheese, canned foods are groceries that can be bought relatively inexpensively and fit into a nonexistent budget, yet be able to fill the little tummies of the kids who you are trying to feed. The lesson that can be learned from blowing this budget is that is really unwise to blow a month's worth of grocery money on a night's worth of food. While it is fun to go out to dinner, it is less fun to starve to death in your own home, especially when it could have easily been avoided.

If you have a savings account that you put aside money into every month in case of a rainy day can be the savior of a rough month. Let us say that your budget fell through and it is looking bleak for survival with the money that you have left. Using the remaining money as smart as possible and then conservatively using your savings to get you by is a smart way to get you through safely so that you don't have to starve without changing your current lifestyle. If you feel that future instances will keep arising, then change your spending and your lifestyle. Think about living a little more conservative and spending money only when you absolutely need to. Why eat out when you can cook it yourself? Why call the plumber when you can get out your tools and fix the leak yourself? If you find a level of self-reliance in what you do, it will be absolutely surprising at how much money is being saved. This saved money can turn around and be used for more important things in your life.
Learning how to budget well and sticking to a budget is the best way to avoid sticky money situations. Sometimes, the budget doesn't work and you have to improvise. In these moments you have to be responsive and smart so that you can improvise and get yourself out of the problem.
