How to save money on transportation

Transportation is one expense that many people think they can not save on. They have to drive to go to work. They have to drive to the store for groceries, toilet paper, etc. They have to drive to various places for various reasons, and this can not be avoided. While it is true that you need to get from point A to point B, there are options to make travel less expensive, and save on the things you pay for each day. You can still drive all the places you normally drive, but spend less to do so.

With the right mindset, and an active approach to saving on transportation, rather than an attitude that says it is impossible, you can save a lot on transportation, and make it possible to put some money that you typically spend on transportation into your cash reserve.
Whenever you are spending money on transportation, you need to ask yourself if there is a way to do it for less. Could you get gas for less? Could you use a coupon for oil changes or go somewhere less expensive, or do it yourself? Could you find a more efficient way to run your errands or get to work? The idea is to look for options for saving that you have not thought of, or taken advantage of in the past, either because you were too lazy, or unaware. Take the time to search out ways to save money, and start applying the things you know.
You can still have regular car maintenance, get from point A to point B, even buy a car, without spending as much to do so. The savings you find will be a great way to build your cash reserve, and when you get in the habit of being more frugal when it comes to your transportation expenses, you will see positive benefits in the future.
Think about how often you go somewhere and drive. If you could save even fifty cents each time you go somewhere, how much could that mean to your cash reserve in a year? Every time your car needed regular maintenance, or a repair, if you could save a few dollars, how much would that mean to your cash reserve in a year? If you could purchase a car at a discount of even 5-10%, how much would you be able to add to your cash reserve? If you saved five cents a gallon each time you filled your tank, how much a year would that save you that you could add to your cash reserve?
Instead of thinking that you can't save on your transportation expenses, start thinking about ways that you can save, and things that you can change or alterations you can make to make your car more fuel efficient, make your repairs and maintenance cost less, and get you from point A to point B for less money.
