How to strengthen your back

yoga30358274.jpg Strengthening your back is important. Without your back you can't stand or do much of anything. So if your back needs strengthening, try some of these ideas.

Do pilates. Pilates are a great way to work out and really help to strengthen or tone. Do things like the cat stretch, where you are on all fours arching your back, arm and leg reaches, and upper back extensions. They will help to really strengthen the back. If you aren't familiar with these exercises then buy a pilates video or go to a pilates class. The instructors will help you find ways specifically for you to help you with your needs. Videos are great too because they give you everything but the personal support but still help you strengthen and tone.

If you want a stronger back, you also need to work on your abdominal muscles. Do things like pilates again, or crunches. Don't forget to do the muscles on the sides. Pilates are great for abdominal muscles because you can do workouts that focus specifically on one or two muscles and you don't have to sit and do a bunch of crunches for the same results.

Try rowing. You don't have to buy a rowing machine, but if you have a gym membership, try the rowing machine there. You can help your shoulder muscles a lot and it will help to strengthen the upper part of your back.

Work on your posture as well. Keeping a good posture can be hard, but it will help to strengthen the upper muscles. It is hard work to get used to, but it will help to relieve your lower back and neck from pressure that shouldn't be there. You don't need a machine for this, but just focus on it and make sure that you have a good posture when you are sitting or walking. Both will help.

If you want, buy a gym membership that includes a personal trainer. They will help you work on the back muscles and can tailor to your needs. If you don't want to spend money on a personal trainer, buy some videos. Pilates, yoga, or normal exercise videos are great.

Weight lifting is important. If you have back problems, you will need to talk with your doctor first. He will let you know what you should do and how much you should do a day. Sometimes your doctor will suggest physical therapy if you have had an injury. Follow their directions exactly and you will start to feel better. If not then you need to talk to them and find something that works and doesn't hurt.

If you start to feel pain in your back, that doesn't feel like muscle pain but is pressure on your back pain, then stop. If it is really bad or gets worse call your doctor. You can't overwork your back. It is sensitive and you can't expect to get a wonderfully strengthened back in just a week. Do a little a time, adding slowly and you will have a great back after a little while.
