You have to realize that working together isn't all fun and games. When you are being paid by someone, you have to respect them and can't just spend all your time talking to your friend. Realize that you can talk on breaks and that the other time is for working. You can't just laugh and joke all day. Be respectful.

You also have to be respectful of each other. You are both working together and should treat each other as colleagues while at work and not best friends. If one of you is doing something they shouldn't be, mention it to them. Don't be offended if it's you being told you are doing something wrong. Just realize that your friend is trying to help you by telling you how to do something better or trying to help you from getting fired.

If one of you gets a promotion, don't be jealous, but be excited for them. They worked hard and should be rewarded. If you want the same thing, ask for some pointers so that you can do your job better and get noticed and maybe be promoted too. Even if you don't get promoted, be happy for them. They are being recognized for their hard work. If you have a problem with them, talk to them about it, don't just hold it in.

By being respectful of each other and realizing what each of your responsibilities are you can have a great friendship still. Working with friends can make your job fun and exciting. It can make you enjoy a job more than if you were just working alone or with people you aren't friends with. You can also get a lot more done than if you were just working with people and shy about really talking to them or giving your input. Friends often help each other see and have this motivation and excitement when they do things together. You can do more and really get the job done better when you aren't so worried about making friends or making the people you work with like you.
