The movie theater experience comes with a high price. National averages put the price of movie ticket at $10 and that does not include snacks, drinks and getting there. Try the following ideas for a fun movie night in that will save you considerably-

- Its never been easier to rent a movie. Gone are the days when you had to pay a fee to join a rental operation. Today you can rent movies easily and best of cheaply. National chains like Blockbuster and Hollywood Movies rent new videos for around $5. This is a significant savings towards even the price of one ticket in a first-run movie theater. In addition many of these national chains offer rewards incentives that after renting so many movies you receive free or discounted movies
- You can go even cheaper. For those who may not be avid movie renters there is even a cheaper and easier option. Red box is the new phenomenon to hit the movie rental world. Any available movie can be rented for just $1 a night. With handy locations (many are outside grocery stores and fast food places) and an easy rental process to complete its hard to beat a 90% savings over the price of a single movie ticket in a theater. For added convenience Red box now allows you to reserve your movie online. So once you get to the location your movie will just be there waiting. Best of all if you if do not get the movie viewed you can keep it for just another $1 dollar charge.
- Check out pay per view/in demand movies. Most people tend to overlook the charges they are paying for their cable T.V. While it can be argued that getting rid of cable can reduce your entertainment expenses why not just use your cable more? Most pay per view movies can be rented for less than $5 with some movies being offered as low as $1.99. Best of all you can easily buy them without even leaving your home. Using your cable remote control, over the phone or online you simply order your movie and indicate the time you want to see it. Even adding on popcorn and other treats this stay at home movie night comes in much cheaper than going to the movie theater.
- Use the internet. You can now order movies from the internet for a fraction of the costs of even seeing just one movie in the theater. Netflix offers a system that allows you to pay a monthly fee (usually starting at $4.99 a month) that gives you access to ordering movies. You simply go online select the movies you want and they are mailed directly to you. When you are finished you put the movies back in the postage paid envelopes, mail them back and Netflix sends you more movies! Even if you join at just the bottom tier and pay only $4.99 a month there are significant savings over the $10 a ticket price that is currently being charged for going to a movie theater. Add on the gas you save, the food costs (concessions sometimes costing as much as the movie) and other applicable costs and you could be seeing a total savings of 90%.
- Swap movies with friends. While this option is not technically renting a movie this is a cost effective way to enjoy a movie cheaply on a night in. Keep in mind that while you may be sick of all the movies you own they are brand new to someone else. Set up a movie swap with friends and all of you can view movies for free! You save money and have loads of fun all at the same time. Best of all this option costs nothing-just a little creativity that pays off in lot of good time!
