Books are a great way to cut your entertainment cost and free up money for your cash reserve. Let's take a look at how reading a book is going to save you money.
How much does an average book cost? If you buy a paperback book, it costs you, on average $8. That is if you buy it from a book store, not used, or check it out at the library. This is also assuming the book did not come out that day, as there is always a premium to get it right away.

Next, how long does it take to read a book? This depends entirely on how many pages the book has, and how fast of a reader you are. However, let's say the average book is 360 pages, and you read a couple of pages per minute. This means that it will take you at least 3 hours to read a book. Now, for most people this is a longer time period. The book may be longer, the person may read slower, etc. So, assuming this, let's just say that it takes 5-6 hours to read a book.
This means your entertainment cost is between $1.50 and $2.00 an hour. What else can you do to entertain yourself for such a low cost? There is not much. Even if you see a two hour matinee, that costs you $5, you are still spending more than you would if you were reading a book. In addition, you do not pend any money on transportation, etc. as you can typically pick up a book at the local grocery store, Wal-mart, etc.
In addition to that, you can get books for far less. You can check them out from the library for free! Libraries are paid for with your tax dollars, so why not get what you pay for? You can buy books online for less as well. For example, you could go on e-bay and buy a whole lot of books from your favorite genre, whether it is romance of science fiction, there is always someone willing to get rid of the collection they have amassed and already read.
In addition to freeing up a significant amount of money each week, books are better for your brain than most other forms of entertainment, as they help improve your skills, give you knowledge, etc. You can learn skills by reading that can help you later to invest the money you save, to improve your personal skills so you can retain a job or get a better job.
Fill your time, visit other worlds, entertain yourself, learn new skills, find romance, find magic, find money to put into your cash reserve by finding books. If you read just five books a year, they take you about five hours a piece to read, that is twenty-five hours of your life that is entertained for a low cost of say $40. If you spend those twenty five hours at the movies, you will spend about $90. So, by reading a book, you just freed up $50 for your cash reserve.
