Take advantage of the great outdoors

Cut your entertainment cost by taking advantage of the great outdoors, and all of the fun, free things it has to offer.
Parks. If you were to take your children to do something fun, such as go to Chuck E Cheese, or go to McDonalds to eat and play in the indoor play ground, or to a zoo, or to a museum, etc, you are looking at spending at least $20 or so for a few hours of entertainment. If you were to pack a lunch and hit a local city park, your expense would just be the food you take with you. You already pay for parks with your tax dollars, so why not take advantage of them? Some have ducks, most have swings, slides, monkey bars, etc. So, next time your kids want to be entertained, put $20 in your cash reserve, and head for the park.

Hiking. Most cities have great places to hike, walk, bike, or jog. There are paved trails, or carved out trails that allow you to climb to the peak of mountains, to wind your way around a lake, to go through a beautiful community, etc. These outdoor trails are great for entertainment. You can strap on some roller blades and go have a good time. You can take a long board, and skate down. You can ride a bike. You can even just walk or run. This is a great way to kill some time, and it can also give you some vitamin D sunshine, and be a lot of fun. If you choose to go for a walk, or bike ride, etc. instead of paying to play tennis somewhere, or paying to see a movie, or walking the mall and buying something you had to have, you will save.
Bird watching. This is a great form of entertainment, and can be done for free. Go to your local library and check out a bird guide. You will love discovering how many birds you have locally, and learning about their habits. It is fun for the whole family to take a nature walk and keep your eyes out for birds.
Water play. The beach, a lake, a river, a stream, all have wonderful potential for entertainment and fun, if you take advantage of it. You can spend hours playing in the ocean, snorkeling, body surfing, surfing, boogie boarding, skim boarding, or just laying out soaking up the sun. You can spend hours floating on tubes down the river, having water fights, etc. So, take advantage of it, typically the only cost is for gas and sunscreen!
Sledding. In the winter experience free entertainment by going sledding, or snow shoeing. The snow, while cold, provides a whole new level of entertainment and stuff to do, and you do not have to pay for expensive lift tickets and snowboarding gear to take advantage of it.
There great outdoors offers many possibilities, so take advantage of them. You will save money, and be healthier!
