The answer to your personal finance questions

Personal finances are one of those things that seem to always be on the minds of independent adults everywhere. It is difficult living from paycheck to paycheck or not knowing if financially you will be able to make it through the month. Everyone has personal finance questions that they need to have answered. This is why financial counselors and consultants have a job. But not everyone has the time or money to invest in professional help when it comes to getting the answers to your personal finance questions.

Many times the answers to your personal finance questions are no further than your own ability to exercise patience and self-control with your finances. All of the good advice in the world does nothing if you are not willing to do something with that advice. Making changes in the ways that we manage our personal finances can definitely be challenging. After all, old habits are hard to make and poor financial habits are often very difficult to even recognize. So where do you start answering your personal finance questions? First you need to decide what it is that you need to ask.

Many times people know that they need help with managing their finances but they do not know why. Many of us do not know what our monthly expenses are or what portion of our paycheck is spent every month. In fact, about 43% of American families spend more than they earn each year. Does your family fall into this category? If you can't say for sure, there is a lot that you can benefit from planning out a budget and evaluating your spending patterns. If you want to know how to better save and spend your money wisely, you need to know where the money that you have is going.

Review at least the past month of expenses. How much did you spend on groceries, utilities and other bills, entertainment costs, etc. You may be surprised at just how much you spend on eating out or at the vending machine. If you are spending more than you make in a month you know that you have serious problems. Not only should you be able to meet all of your financial obligations every month, but you ought to plan to have enough left over to contribute to your savings account or emergency fund.

Still even with cutting back some people find themselves trying to get ahead and not being able to. Often times debt is to blame for our inabilities to answer our own financial problems. Debt can be all consuming. Over time debt can become more and more difficult to conquer and interest payments can easily become more of a burden than the amount borrowed in the first place. If your financial questions include issues of debt, there is a simple answer: pay it off! Pay off your debt as quickly as possible. Make two payments a month when you can. Avoid accruing any new debt at least until you have paid off what you already owe. Do not become desensitized to how ensnaring credit cards can be with their appealing introductory rates and low variable percentage rates. There is no better way to regain control of your finances than to be debt free; a task that many of us will spend the majority of our lives trying to achieve.

The answer to your personal finances questions is often found in personal finance knowledge, habits and attitude. All of these characteristics can be manipulated and changed for the best with some time, effort and a little guidance from those whose financial answers you trust.
