The Frugal Week

brokenpiggybank19151356.jpgEveryone looks at money and either cringes or grins. If you are good with your money, and know how to make it grow, chances are you smile, but if you, like many others, have trouble with over spending, budgeting, and being frugal, these fun tips might make managing your money a little easier. The following is a look at how you can have a more frugal week:

Have a miserly Monday: Being miserly means being a saver. So, make Mondays about saving money on things you buy regularly. This means make a real effort to shut off lights when you leave a room, etc. In addition, cut coupons for your grocery shopping for the week. Use Monday as your shopping day, and create your list, then stick to it and get everything with coupons or on a discount.

Have a tight Tuesday: If on Tuesday you act like your budget is not existent, and do not spend any money, you will find that you make your budget much easier. So, make it a goal as a family to be tight on Tuesday. This means pack a lunch for work, make sure you have gas in your car so you do not need to fill up. Have food in the fridge, etc. Get in the habit of avoiding spending money on this day, and it will pay off. Staying in and not going to a store means not being tempted to spend more than you planned.

Have a waste free Wednesday: Save money on Wednesday by eating leftovers, watching movies you already own, recycling items into other things, repainting or making over furniture, clothes, etc. It is a day where you focus on using what you have, rather than on what more you need or want.

Have a thrifty Thursday: Save money on this day by being as thrifty as possible. That means cut off your old jeans and hem them into shorts rather than shop for new clothes. Trade babysitting with friends instead of paying a sitter. Use old egg cartons to make crafts with your kids in the afternoon rather than spending money to see a movie or go some place. Be thrifty, make it your goal for the day!

Have a frugal Friday: Friday is one of the biggest spending days of the week. People are getting ready for the weekend, and they are prone to go out to eat, see the new released movies, and spend a lot on entertainment, etc. Make Friday more frugal by finding alternatives for entertainment, in addition, work to make your home more energy efficient. Do this by using florescent bulbs, insulating well, keeping lights, televisions, computers, off when not in use, etc.

Have a saving Saturday: Part of good money management is building a savings. So, as a family, make Saturday's about saving money. Determine a fun family activity, and put the money savings into your savings account. For example, if your family enjoys movies, instead of going to a movie, make your own home movie, and put the $30 or so in savings into your savings account. Challenge yourself to make a fun day out of Saturday and still save money.

Have a someone Sunday: Make your Sunday's more frugal by spending them with friends and family at your home or theirs. Barbeque, play card games or board games, play the wii. Make Sunday a day where you reconnect with friends, or keep friendships going, and do it without spending money. You will still have fun, and spend far less.
