Step aerobics provides all of the normal benefits that regular aerobics provides, but they also provide some benefits that are strictly related to step aerobics, which means other aerobics can not provide the same benefits.

Here is a look at some step aerobics benefits.

Benefit one:
One of the best benefits of step aerobics is that it can actually increase your good cholesterol levels. A study that was in the Journal of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness found that step aerobics can significantly increase the HDL cholesterol levels. While various forms of aerobics will help decrease your cholesterol levels, step aerobics is the only form that has been found to increase your good cholesterol levels. The reason that step aerobics increases the HDL cholesterol levels is because it is more vigorous than other forms of aerobics and the more vigorous the exercise the better the change in HDL cholesterol levels.

Benefit two:
Another huge benefit to step aerobics is that it provides you with a great high calorie burning workout, no matter what level of step aerobics you are doing. In a normal fifty minute step aerobic workout you can burn anywhere from 250 to 400 calories, how much you actually burn depends on your weight and your level of exertion. And one of the best things about burning calories is that you are burning fat at the same time which means it can help you to lose weight.

Benefit three:
Another benefit of step aerobics is that it makes you feel energized, as well as makes you feel better about yourself because you are doing something positive. This benefit is actually quite common in most types of aerobics, but either way it is a huge benefit because it can make it easier to stick to your healthier lifestyle, not to mention it provides you with plenty of energy to get through the day.

Benefit four:

There has also been a study done that supports the theory that step aerobics meets the criteria for developing cardio respiratory fitness, as long as it is done for the right amount of time and at the right intensity level. When performing step aerobics you should be performing at a rate of 118 to 122 beats per minute, but depending on the style and pace of the music you can reach rates as high as 126 to 128 beats per minute.

Benefit five:
Like other types of aerobics step aerobics can help your body's endurance and stamina. But in order to increase your body's endurance and stamina step aerobics must be performed and practiced on a regular basis, which means that you need to set up a schedule and stick to it when, such as how many times a week and how long of a workout you are going to perform.

Just remember that these are only some of the benefits that step aerobics can provide you with. There are numerous other benefits that step aerobics can give you such as muscle tone, strengthen the muscles, increase your flexibility, and improve your overall general health. Step aerobics can also reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease, as well as improve your mental attitude.
