Alternative medicine options for lung cancer

Lung cancer is a terrible disease that affects thousands of people every year. It is a deadly disease, and one that should not be taken lightly. Once people are diagnosed with lung cancer they have a fairly small chance of full recovery. For those of us who have either had the disease, have the disease, or have a loved one who has been diagnosed, it is important to gather as much information as possible in order to come up with the best treatment options. There are a few succesful treatments currently practiced that can help to cure the disease or to slow it down. Some treatments deal mostly with the the symptoms themselves, while others deal with the cancer. The three major treatments are teburculosis, radon, and surguery.

The simple fact is that many people diagnosed with lung cancer will not survive. However, there are alternative treatments that you should know about that can make a significant difference. They might not cure the cancer or save your life, but they might make living with the cancer much easier. Be cautious trusting reports about wonder cures or ancient Chinese secrets. This is not to say that there is nothing to some alternative treatments. You just should not only pursue an alternative treatment. Use it to supplement your regular treatment as long as it does not negatively impact it.

The alternative treatments that researchers generally feel help to deal with the symptoms (not necessarily the disease itself) are: hypnosis, meditation, yoga, acupuncture, and massage therapy. These treatments can help to relieve the terrible stree and anxiety associated with the disease. They can help to deal with sever pain and certain physical difficulties. Generally they improve the sense of health and well being for anyone. Some studies show that massage therapy is helpful in relieving anxiety and pain. Acupuncture has been shown to help with fatigue, nerve pain, and shortness of breath.

Other types of cancer care might work but you simply cannot be sure about them. If they have not been investigated by medical scientists then you either don't know that the treatment will help or if it might hurt you. Anything that could harm your body when it is so weak is a real risk. Consult your oncologist before you try any sort of new treatment. While it is good to try new things and be open to new treatments, don't run the risk of making yourself sicker or raising hopes that should not be raised.

While I know that some alternative therapies can have a positive impact, I have seen many people spend large amounts of money and raise their hopes falsely. They spend time and energy that could have been put into more traditional forms of treatment. There are also plenty of people out there who would love to sell you expensive alternative treatments that have no clear benefit. It is terrible to think that people would take advantage of the sick, but you never know what people will do for money. Watch out for scams or false hope. People know that you are desparate for a cure and they know that you will try anything.

With this said, therapies like acupuncture and yoga could improve your experience greatly. They help your body to generally feel better and they might help you to feel more positive about the situation. A healthy mind with a positive attitude can actually make a huge difference in terms of treatment. Exploring alternative treatments could thus have a positive impact on your lung cancer treatment.
