When shopping for a treadmill, it probably won't take long for you to notice that treadmills typically come with a high price tag. Ranging anywhere from $500 to over $5,000, with most falling somewhere in between, it can be difficult to find a quality treadmill without spending a great deal of money.

There are plenty of brands out there that offer affordable treadmills without compromising quality. As a general rule, around $500 will get you a very basic treadmill. This type of treadmill, however, will probably have a weaker motor, so you wouldn't be able to run at high speeds on it, and it may or may not have incline capabilities.

For a quality treadmill, you should expect to pay at least $500. Anything less than that, and you will most likely be compromising quality.

The following are some of the best treadmill brands that are affordable and still offer a number of features.

Nordic Track
Most people who are familiar with fitness equipment will recognize the name Nordic Track. Nordic Track offers a wide range of treadmills with a wide range of prices as well. The entry-level treadmill in the Nordic Track line, the C series, is about $700 and has a number of features. If you are looking for a quality treadmill but don't want to spend thousands, the C series is ideal for someone looking for a basic treadmill that offers a number of added features at an affordable price. This model includes such things as a one-touch speed control that lets you go from 1-10 mph with one touch; a 12% incline option; a 20x55 treadmill belt that gives a wider and longer running space than most standard belts; and an impact cushioning belt that claims to reduce impact by up to 28% when compared to road or street running.

This treadmill is just around $400, but is of better quality and has more features than treadmills that are more expensive. It has a 2.0 continuous duty motor, which is fairly impressive, and goes up to 10mph. It has a user weight limit of 250 pounds, so it isn't suitable for larger exercisers. The belt is 50 x 18, which is good for walkers and joggers. It also comes with four pre programmed workouts, including 2 fat burning and 2 aerobic. The display also shows distance, calories burned, and time. However, with lower quality materials, it is more prone to break down, and a 90 day warranty isn't very good. Still, it is the best treadmill for a limited budget.

Pro Form
Pro Form is one of the best selling treadmill brands around, and they offer an entry-level treadmill for around $700 that is still good quality and has a number of enticing features. It has a 2.75 horsepower motor that is both quiet and powerful and reaches speeds of up to 10 mph and inclines up to 10%. It also has 8 built-in workouts. The cushioning system on the belt helps to reduce the impact that comes with running or jogging. This treadmill, however, isn't for serious runners and is best suited for beginners, walkers, or those who will only be jogging.

If you have been shopping for a treadmill and are discouraged by the price tags, keep in mind that there are a number of quality but affordable treadmills on the market today.
