One of the truest facts in life is that prevention of poor health is better than fixing it later. A lot of people live by the philosophy, "Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow science will have an answer to my problems, and I will live." Unfortunately, while this is true in many cases, the quality of life is what is lacking.
Let's look at an example that can better illustrate this point. Compare your body to a car. Let's say you buy your car new. You wash it weekly. You change the oil every 3000 miles on the dot. You use the right grade of fuel, even if it is more expensive. You have regular tune ups. You rotate your tires. You drive at appropriate speeds, and you take care of the car. Now let's say your neighbor buys the same car, on the same day. Only, instead of doing all of these things, he does what is fastest, easiest, and least expensive. Pretty soon the car breaks down. Of course, his mechanic is very good, and is able to fix the problem. Now both cars are up for sale. Which would you rather have? The one that has been taken good care of and has no problems? Or, the one that has been neglected for the sake of ease, expense, and time, and also has no problems because the mechanic fixed them? Exactly. Our bodies are like these cars. If you always do what is fastest (fast foods instead of something healthy, for example), what is cheapest (buying prepackaged manufactured foods as opposed to vegetables because it is cheaper), and what is easiest (no exercise), you will be like the car that is a problem waiting to happen. Sure the doctor can help fix you, but it is not the same.
