Avoiding upset stomachs when you travel

Let's face it, while travel can be very exciting, sometimes it can be hard on the body, especially if you travel somewhere foreign. One of the top fears people have when they go to a foreign country is whether or not the food will be safe to eat or if it will make them sick. People worry about poor food hygiene and contaminated water. And, these fears are real, and should be addressed. So, rather than worry or suffer the consequences, you should prepare yourself for all possibilities so no bad affects can harm you. Try the following:

First and foremost, if you are smart about things, you can avoid the main causes of illnesses by trying to stay away from eating raw or undercooked meat, and be cautious of seafood. It is also important to be wary of unpasteurized dairy. Many places do not pasteurize dairy products, so avoid dairy and you probably won't have a problem. Of course wash any fresh foods well before eating them, even if you are at a restaurant.

Plane travel when pregnant

Many people worry that flying during pregnancy is a big no-no, and in some cases it is. However, for the most part, as long as you follow some simple rules, you can fly while pregnant.

There are a few reasons people do not fly when pregnant:

  • Flying can lead to poor circulation, which can be harmful to a fetus.

  • Flying in a pressurized cabin with recycled air can make you motion sick, combined with morning sickness, it can be very uncomfortable to fly.

  • Flying puts you somewhere away from your health care provider, which can mean that if you were to go into labor someone else would be delivering your baby, possibly somewhere not covered by your insurance, etc.

  • Flying in rough air, or for a long time can cause stress on your body that leads to premature labor.
