Choosing a clinic for your eye surgery

Many people are choosing to ditch their contact lenses or glasses in exchange for eye surgery to correct their vision.

Once you have made the decision to have eye surgery, one of the first things you will need to do is choose a clinic for your eye surgery. This is an important decision you have to make and could make a big difference on the outcome of your surgery.

The following are a few tips and things you need to look for when choosing an eye surgery clinic:

Recommendations

One of the best things you can do is get a few recommendations from people you know who have already had eye surgery, whether it be Lasik or another type. If they were impressed with the clinic and the staff and had an overall good experience and are pleased with their result, this could be a good start when choosing a clinic for your eye surgery. Your eye doctor will also be an excellent choice in getting recommendations.

The type of laser technology used

Make sure you look for a clinic that has up to date, advanced laser technology that can do the type of surgery you need. Lasers today are much better and can give much better results than laser used as little as a few years ago, so make sure you choose a clinic that stays updated. Find out the type of lasers used, then look up their performance information online or on the FDA's website.

The surgeon

Equally important to the clinic is the surgeon you will be using. Make sure you have a surgeon who has extensive experience performing the type of surgery you will be getting done. Don't go with anyone who has done less than 5000 procedures, provides a consultation to you first, and will answer all of your questions thoroughly.

The clinic itself

Take a look at the overall clinic you choose for your eye surgery. Make sure it has been open for some time; a clinic that has only been open for a few months may look great and have good prices, but it's best to go with an established eye surgery clinic so you know they have what it takes to last.

In addition, pay attention to the cleanliness of the clinic. The staff makes a difference too; make sure your phone calls are answered when you call, and that they are competent and friendly. Visiting a clinic where the receptionist is never there or one that is unkempt is not a good sign.

Price/Financing

The prices charged by the clinic are another factor you will want to take into consideration. Compare it to other clinics in the area and as a general rule, steer clear of anything that is much higher or much lower. Clinics that offer bargain prices or take coupons are not an indication of a higher quality clinic.

The type of financing a clinic offers will also be something you want to take into consideration. If you are unable to pay for your entire procedure upfront, you might want to look into financing options and see if you qualify.

The clinic or surgery center you choose for your eye surgery is an important decision. The above tips will help you to choose the right one for you.
