The foot is known as a map for your entire body.
The reflex points in your foot correspond to vital organs, muscles, and glands in your body. Gravity causes uric acid to settle in the reflex points in your foot, this acid can cause a bubble to form and that can become painful the first time it is stimulated. Asian medicine refers to the bubble as `chi'. They believe that the body needs proper flow of energy in order to maintain proper mind and body health. By stimulating the reflex points in the feet, the uric acid will be broken up and the `chi' energy will be freed. Again, the release of the uric acid will help to improve blood circulation and metabolism. This reduces the pressure, stress, and workload on your heart. Releasing the uric acid also helps to regulate hormone imbalances in the nerve and brain system. This will help your body stay calm, restore its energy, clarity, and vitality.

Cobblestone exercise mats are made with embedded faux, smooth cobblestones over a rubber bottom. They usually measure around 16 by 72 inches. Depending upon the type of cobblestone exercise mat you purchase, you may be able to arrange the stones in different formations, allowing you to stimulate acupressure points to your feet.

Commonly cobblestone exercise mats are used in nursing homes to help elderly patients to improve their balance and improve their posture. If you are interested in purchasing a cobblestone exercise mat, here are some good places to look at:

Fitter1.com - This web site provides several cobblestone exercise mats. You can purchase large or small exercise mats, ranging in prices from $14.95 - $ 44.90.

Amazon.com
- This online shopping web site provides you with several different types of cobblestone exercise mats. They average around $40.00 and feature a 6 foot cobblestone walking surface.

Now that you know where to purchase a cobblestone exercise mat, you need to learn how to use it. First, find a calm, peaceful space with adequate room. Second, place the mat on the floor and begin using the mat. Your first time should be limited to 5-10 minutes. After your body becomes comfortable using a cobblestone exercise mat, you can build up to 10-40 minutes. You should use the exercise mat 3 times per week. Always drink plenty of water after using the mat to flush out the remaining toxins that were released into your body. If your feet are uncomfortable using the mat or you want a lighter stimulation to begin, use socks until you feel comfortable.

Before you begin using a cobblestone exercise mat, you should contact your health care provider. If you experience pain when using the mat, this may indicate that you have several uric acid blockages that may need to be released by a trained professional.

As you can see, cobblestone exercise mats are beneficial to your health. Why not give them a try and enjoy improved circulation, relaxation and balanced hormone levels?

Soft Tile Foam Mats
Soft Tile foam mats are commonly used in gyms, playrooms, schools and daycare centers, exercise rooms, and bedrooms. Soft tile foam mats are usually about 5/8 inch think soft mats that are made from safe EVA foam. If you want a soft, comfortable floor, then soft tile foam mats are perfect. They are easy to assemble, like a big floor sized puzzle! Soft tile foam mats reduce pressure on your knees and all the joints in your body.

When you are selecting foam mats you need to be careful of cheap, thin mats that do not provide the maximum support your body needs. A good foam mat should be at least 5/8 or 14 millimeters thick. You should also select a mat that is waterproof. Foam mats should not absorb any water. Water that is spilled on the mat should just wipe right off the surface of the mat.

You must also determine where the mat is going to be used. If you are using a foam mat in a playroom or in a child's room you probably want colorful mats. They are wonderful for making your play rooms soft for your child, so when they trip and fall, it won't hurt. If you are using a foam mat in the exercise room, you probably want one neutral color like black, red, or blue. The mat again should be waterproof and comfortable on your joints. Interlocking foam mats are perfect for your exercise room as it expands with new equipment and exercise routines.

Yoga Mats

Yoga mats are one of the most common exercise mats on the market. Yoga mats are wonderful for improving balance and coordination. Many people are stronger on one side of the body and this is why a yoga mat is beneficial to improving our stability. When you are shopping for a yoga mat, you should select one with a "sticky texture". This allows your hands and feet greater control over your movement. Yoga mats help reduce pressure on your knees, elbows and hips. They are designed to cushion your joints where you do not have padding.

In our busy society, finding time to exercise is difficult for many people. Inactivity leads to stiffness, mental fog, lack of muscle tone, cramps, and headaches. The great benefit to yoga is that you can practice some of the poses at your desk. This will increase your circulation, respiration and give you clarity of mind.

Here are some tips for selecting a yoga mat. Do the "pinch test". You will pinch the mat between the thumb and forefinger to compare the compression resistance. Decide how thick you would like your yoga mat to be. Many yoga mats are relatively thin, but are perfect for yoga work outs. They offer a huge benefit to using carpet for your workout. Next you need to moisten your hand to see how the traction holds up. You don't want to fall over when you are in the middle of a pose. Lastly, you need to determine the life of the mat. You can do this by taking a quarter and rubbing the edge of the mat and determining how many strokes it takes before the surface breaks. The longer the surface remains in tact, the longer life your mat will have.

Gymnastic Mats
These mats are commonly found in wrestling rooms and gymnastic rooms. Usually these mats are foam and range from 1.5-28 inches thick. They are covered in vinyl or plastic lining. Depending upon your needs, the foam density can range from firm to soft. If you are a gymnast, you will notice mats on literally everything. Here are some common gymnastic mats:

  • Beam pads - these are thing mats that are fastened around the balance beam. They are only used in training, but they give the gymnast higher training skills and greater protection from landing incorrectly.

  • Blocks - These pads are used as step stools for gymnasts who are working on the bars or beams. They are firm, trapezoid or rectangular shaped mats.

  • Crash mats - These mats are usually very soft and thick and are used when gymnasts are learning new skills.

  • Folding mats - These are thin, firm mats that are about 12 feet in length. They can be folded, stacked and attached to other mats using Velcro straps. They are commonly used for tumbling moves or placed underneath balance bars and rings.

  • Incline mats - These are known as wedge mats or cheese mats. They are used to train and teach beginning gymnasts to do rolls, walkovers, and handsprings.

  • Springboard mats - These are firm mats that are used on the vault. They are placed around the springboard on all 3 sides. The gymnast can push off the springboard mat for momentum.
