Fitness for moms with toddlers


If you are the mother of a toddler or multiple toddlers you know how hard it can be to include an exercise routine into your busy, Sesame Street-filled life. Fitness is very important and can be something that is stress relieving and fun for you.

If you are looking to include an exercise program to your very busy daily routine it may be a good idea to join a gym or recreation center that offers a child care facility. Many facilities cater to mothers and offer on-site child care. Go to your local gym and check out what they have to offer. Find out if the child care is included in the cost of membership or if there is an additional charge. If there is an additional charge it is usually pretty minimal. There is usually a time maximum allowance but it can be somewhat flexible depending on the rules they have set. It is always nice to participate in a fitness class. Chances are you will meet other moms like yourself concerned about fitness and raising a family. It will be nice for you to get out and be active, while meeting other people as well.


Perhaps joining a gym or rec. center is not a possibility for you. Try getting your workout in some other way. You can be really creative with it too. You could try getting up in the morning a half an hour or an hour before the kids and taking a speed walk and your shower before they get up for the day. This, of course depends on whether or not your significant other or some other adult is still at home during that time to provide your children with adult supervision while you are out on your walk in case they should wake up early. Maybe those few minutes of sleep are too precious for you to give up to an exercise routine. Getting enough rest is important too, especially when you have young children. There are other ways to get in your work out that will not deprive you of sleep that you may be desperate for.

If you have some friends that also have small kids you can switch off babysitting with them on a weekly or daily basis to get your work out in. Get together with a few of your friends and maybe you can make arrangements to work out t
