Here are some healthy habits that you should encourage your children to do.
Number one: Breakfast
Many parents often skip breakfast and from example so do children. With teenagers, they are most often in a rush to get out of the door to head to school so that they can go socialize with their friends. What you and your children are not realizing is that breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day. The reason for this is that eating a good breakfast is what is going to give you the start of the energy that you need to get through the day. Skipping breakfast is only going to do harm because breakfast is what gets your metabolism moving, which means you cannot calories as fast until you have eaten something.
Number two: Fruits and vegetables
One thing that children do not eat enough of is fruits and vegetables. In order to be healthy you will want to encourage your child to eat as many fruits and vegetables in a day as they want. Fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants and many vitamins that our bodies need to keep us health. The more fruits and vegetables that you get your child to eat the more vitamins they will be receiving through their diet. With the antioxidants, your child will also be able to better their immune system, which means they can fight off more germs.
Number three: Junk food
You should encourage your child to limit the amount of junk food that they are eating. Instead of eating junk food, try offering them healthy snacks, such as carrot sticks or celery sticks. With the healthy snacks, you can make them more desirable by adding things to it. For example, with celery you can make ants on a log by adding peanut butter and raisins to the celery stick. You should also encourage your child to eliminate any sweetened drinks or at least limit their intake of them.
Number four:
Encourage your child to increase their physical activity. Most kids enjoy sitting round watching television or playing video games, but as a responsible parent, you need to encourage them to get outside and participate in things to keep them active. One thing that you can do to help get your children more active is to limit the amount of time they are allowed to spend watching television or playing video games, a good time limit is an hour each day. The rest of the time, they should be outside playing with friends or being involved in sports. You can also choose to get active as a family. For example, each night go for a walk or a bike ride together.
Just remember when you are trying to get your child to choose healthy habits you do not want to criticize them. If you criticize them you can ruin their self-esteem, and they might go against what you want them to do. The best way to go about encouraging your child to make healthy choices is to make those same healthy choices, lead by example.
