Acne breakouts can be one of the most frustrating things to deal with. Although most common during the teenage years, breakouts can happen to everyone during any stage of life. Breakouts can disrupt social activities and can have long term psychological effects on self esteem. There are however some ways to stop and prevent it from happening as much. Here are some suggestions on how to be preemptive about breakouts.

1. In order to be preemptive against breakouts you need to make sure that you have a thorough cleansing routine. Using a good cleanser, exfoliate, and toner can drastically improve your skin's appearance. Many breakouts occur because there is too much dead skin on your face. By exfoliating first you can get ride of the excess skin. You can exfoliate your skin simply by using a wash cloth to wash your face with. Toner will help to tighten up the skin after it has been washed and exfoliated. Choose cleansers and toners that are designed to gently balance combination skin. Some acne treatment cleansers and systems will dry out your skin if used excessively. You can cleanse and tone your skin up to three times a day.

2. The sun can also have damaging effects on your skin; the summer months can be especially hard on breakouts because your skin is hot and sweats more. If you're smart you will always wear sunscreen outside, especially on your face. But if you've noticed, sunscreen can play a major role in summer breakouts. Most of the over-the-counter sunscreens contain high amounts of oil and chemical sun filters which contribute greatly to how much your skin breaks out. Finding the right kind of sunscreen for your skin is essential to being preemptive with breakouts. Choose a sunscreen that is specifically designed for your face in an oil free formulation. There are many different kinds of products out there that you can buy the cleanser, toner and moisturizer all in one. Most of the moisturizers today are made with SPF in them. Just make sure you read all the ingredients so you're not putting more on your skin than you need to. Keep it as light and oil free as possible to let your face breathe and stop the break outs.

3. Another important aspect to being preemptive about breakouts is making sure that you have a healthy well balanced diet. Many people don't know it, but diet plays a big role in acne treatment. Eating fruits, vegetables, and whole grains can really help keep your skin clear and healthy. Another part of a good diet is drinking lots of water. The recommended daily intake of water is at least eight glasses. That is the minimum of course; your skin loves water so drink plenty of it. Water, fiber, fruits and vegetables are detoxifying and are great for controlling acne. Keep your skin hydrated and healthy by keeping a well balanced diet.

4. Make exercise a regular part of your routine. Not only does it help to keep you in good shape but it can help improve the condition of your skin and prevent you from breaking out more than you like. There are a number of different ways to go about this. If you have the time and the money you could always get a membership to a gym which will offer a variety of classes at different times. If can't find the time or money to go to the gym, then try doing some yoga or Pilates at home. Even a little can help.

These are a few ideas on how to be preemptive about breakouts. If you are faithful with them, you will get the results you desire.
