How to choose a diet that tastes good and helps you lose weight

No one diet will work for everyone. And some diets hardly work for anyone! With so many different types of diets and so much publicity and advertising claiming that a certain diet is better than another, it is hard to know where to start. In fact, many people do not start a diet because they have a hard time finding something that they think they can do. Choosing a diet that tastes good and will help you to loose weight is possible. It will just take a little guidance and some work on your part.
The danger of a "goal weight"
Having an unrealistic goal weight in mind can not only cause you to stray from your diet but it can be physically dangerous as well. Remember that you have to take into consideration your age your frame, your health, your height, etc. when you set a goal weight. Do not expect to turn yourself into some model you would find in a teen magazine if you are 45 and have 3 kids. Aim for health, not for a jean size. Doing this will help you first to slowly loose weight, and second to help you to maintain a health weight.

Balance is necessary
Diets do not work when you go from cheeseburgers and fries to tofu and salad over night. Make your change gradual. Do not be afraid to add some of your guilty pleasure foods to the dieting recommendations. Slowly wean those foods out of your diet. You can give yourself a break at first but remember that to make a diet work you will have to be committed to doing so long term.
Drink water
Everyone on a diet should drink water and luckily few people have an aversion to the taste. Water is obviously an important factor in hydrating your body but it also plays a huge role in cleaning out the toxins in your system. Drinking at least half of your body weight in ounces of water every day is recommended (so if you are 200 lbs, try your best to drink 100 ounces each day).
Savor the seasons, marinades and bastes
If you are afraid that your diet will take away the flavor of your food think again. There are plenty of ways to season your foods to make them taste like something other than cardboard. You do not have to sacrifice all flavors just certain types of unhealthy flavors (like saturated fat, etc.) Note: when cooking poultry leave the skin on the bird to cook it and then remove the skins before eating. Doing so does not add any fat but it keeps the meat moist by stopping the juices from escaping.
Train your body to like certain foods
Your body will learn to like or to reject foods. If you have lived off of Twinkies and Ding Dongs your whole life and then make the switch to fish and vegetables, of course your body is going to reject it at first. Your body learns to crave certain foods based on what you commonly eat. In time you can slowly change what the body craves by introducing new foods. Many people will tell you that after avoiding a certain type of unhealthy food for a while, that they no longer craved it and some will even say that they don't even like the foods that they once had such an addiction to. Have an opened mind when it comes to trying new foods. Have a desire to want to like the healthier foods that you need to be eating. Sometimes choosing a diet that tastes good and helps you to loose weight is a matter of mind over body.
