Water aerobics is a great form of aerobics for a wide range of people. There are water aerobic classes that are offered for senior citizens, pregnant women, and just average people. But like all aerobic classes if you are suffering from an injury or have physical problems you should consult your doctor before beginning any type of water aerobics classes. One of the best things about water aerobics classes is that you can always find at least one, if not more classes, that are being offered near you.

Difficulty level: easy to moderate

Step one:
The first thing that you need to do is to determine what level of class you are going to need. This is important so that you can look for the appropriate classes and enroll in the right one.

Step two:
The next thing that you need to do is to look online for local water aerobic classes. There are many websites available that will provide you with local water aerobic classes and tips on how to choose the right water aerobics class.

Step three:

If you can't find anything online you should look in the yellow pages to see where water aerobic classes are located.

Step four:

You can also call your local community center or gyms to see if they offer water aerobics classes and if so when they are being offered and what types of classes are being offered.

Step five:

You can also contact the park and recreation department for your city and town to find out if they know where water aerobics classes are being offered. Senior citizen centers are also another place you can go to find information about water aerobics classes for senior citizens.

Step six:
Once you have found out where the water aerobics classes are being offered you are going to need to make sure that they have a variety of different classes at different times and at different levels so that you can find a water aerobics class that meets your needs.

Step seven:
After you have found the places that offer water aerobics you are going to have to find out if the offer specialty classes and what level of water the class is going to use. If you can not swim you should avoid doing deep water aerobics because of the chance of drowning,

Step eight:
If you still can not find a public water aerobics class you can join exercise websites to see if anybody is offering private classes or you can even check the phone books to see if they are being offered. Or you can always get a few friends together, make sure somebody has a pool, and start your own water aerobics class.

Other tips:

  • If your water aerobics class is outdoors you are going to want to make sure that you wear sunscreen so that you can protect yourself from sunburn.

  • Even though you are in the water you are still going to need to drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated.

  • If you are going to be using a public pool (most of you will) you will probably want to wear special shoes so that you can protect your feet from the bottom of the pool.

  • You will need to find out from the instructor if there is any special equipment that you are going to need for your water aerobics class so that you can purchase it before class or perhaps find it around your house.

  • Never do water aerobics alone, you never know what kind of trouble you can get in even if you are an experienced swimmer.
