Plump up your pucker with great gloss and color! Here are some tips on how you can find the right lip product for you!

Wishing that you had the great kissers of a Scarlett Johanssen or an Angelina Jolie? Join the club! We all want those large, luscious, plump lips that are sported by so many glam movie stars and models! Well, even if your lips are not naturally those of a movie star, you can still plump them up by following these easy steps to find the right color and lip product for you!

Steps for choosing the right lip color

No matter how glossy your lip gloss is or how perfectly you apply your lip color, it doesn't matter if you've chosen the wrong color! Here are some easy to follow steps to help you decide what lip color is going to be best for you.

1. Choose your right color

Some colors are going to look good with your skin tone, while some won't. You need to choose a color that has undertones that will complement your skin tone-orangey colors work better with warm skin tones, while more bluish undertones are for those with cool skin tones.

If you have a darker skin tone, then the best colors for you are deep red, wines, and plums. If you have a lighter skin tone, then you should go with beiges with pink or orange. Do you have olive skin? Go for brownish reds, light browns, or raisin. Experiment to see what the best colors on you are. Some stores have a policy that lets you return any makeup that you decide you don't like. RiteAid is one of those.

2. Know your finishes

Lipsticks have different finishes. For example, matte and cream finish lipsticks are more subtle than a high gloss satin finish. Lighter colors are more appropriate for day time, while you can go darker at night. Another great look for daytime is to go with a more sheer, natural looking color with a clear gloss over it during the day.

  • Start by putting some lip balm on your lips. This will keep them moisturized. It will also help your lipstick stay on.
  • If you are going for a dark color, or if you want your lipstick to stay on a long time, then put a little bit of foundation on your lips. This will let your color stick to something! It will also give you a blank canvas to work with.
  • Lining your lips will give you a definite shape and will give you volume. You don't want a really hard "outlined" look. Instead, just use really small strokes. And don't worry about lining the corners-otherwise you'll look like a grouchy old woman. Apply the lip liner after you apply your lip color to avoid the "ring around the mouth" look.
  • The best way to make your lips look full and luscious is to take a clear lip gloss and dab it right in the middle of your bottom lip.
  • If you have small lips, then go for a medium shade lipstick.
  • If your mouth turns downward then just grab a little bit of light reflecting concealer. Put a tiny amount in the outer edges of your lips. This will turn the light away from these shadows.

3. Try some lip plumpers

There are some fantastic products out there that will make your lips shimmery, glossy, and will also plump them up! When you apply these, you can actually feel the plumping action. Choose from an array of colors, and apply several times throughout the day.

The best lip plumpers:

Lip Venom by Du Wop
Laura Mercier Lip Plumpers

You can wear lip plumpers either all by themselves, or you can put them over lipstick for to add a great shine to your favorite lip color.
