If you enjoy aerobics, you may want to look into becoming an instructor and getting paid for it. It's probably not one of the best paying jobs on the market, but imagine all the benefits it has to offer. You get to use the facility for free including access to the swimming pool and to all the exercise equipment. You get to meet a lot of different people, and share your knowledge with them which can dramatically improve their lives.
Becoming an aerobic instructor is not an easy task.

- You have to know how to instruct the students about the necessary moves. You need to learn to explain the moves that you are going to do and at the same time show it to them by performing it. While you are doing all of this you also have to be ready to announce the next move. You constantly have to know what comes next and how to get the students to follow your moves and stay with you.
- You need to find ways to make sure that everyone, whether pro or a novice, enjoys your program. You don't want to offer something too simple to bore the students. Avoid moves that are too complex because some will have trouble to follow the course and give up.
- From time to time you need to change the pattern of your moves. If not, you will find some of the students getting bored with the routine.
- Always start your aerobic exercise with a warm up. Next, do the high impact exercises followed by a cool down afterwards.
- Choose the music wisely. Use one with a slower beat for your warm ups, then gradually increase the tempo for your high impact exercises. Use music with a slower tempo to finish with the cool down.
Aerobics teachers need to have some kind of knowledge about the human body. They need to target the essential muscle groups that need to be exercised. They also need to know what kind of precautions to take to avoid injury.
- You are expected to name different parts of the body such as the ligaments, the tendons bones and to know which ones will benefit from the exercise. You also need to know what to do if you injure any muscles or bones during the aerobics.
In addition to knowing the anatomy of the human body, aerobics instructors also are required to know the nutrition necessary to keep the body healthy. They need to encourage their students to have healthy lifestyle habits.
- Make sure you get to know about your students' health before they begin the course.
- Monitor your students closely. Encourage those who are struggling to always come to a walking point to help them catch their breath before continuing with the higher impact exercise.
- Take care of any injuries right away.
- As a trained aerobic teacher, students assume that you know more about health issues than they do and may ask you questions. Answer the questions if you know the answers, and if you have any doubts, refer them to a qualified professional in that field.
- A written test on the anatomy of the human body, the muscles, exercise techniques and nutrition.
- You will be expected to demonstrate your knowledge of workout exercises on an individual level. You will perform in a room full of other candidates and evaluators watching. You will be graded on your ability to demonstrate various sets of moves and safe exercises. Also you will be asked to lead a class in an exercise for a specific muscle group. You will be graded on your leadership ability and also on the steps you incorporate to avoid the risk of injury during your aerobics.
After you get certified, you can basically apply for a job at any gym. The fitness director will be the one to offer you the job. The fitness director may ask you to lead part of a class to see your abilities and leadership in that job. Once you get the job, enjoy teaching what you love to do.
