Digestion is not one of the things that is actually thought about. It is an automatic body process that breaks down the food we eat into vitamins and nutrients that our body needs. Digestion is something that we should all pay more attention to. Poor digestion can not only rob your body of essential vitamins and minerals but it can also lead to other health problems.

How to have better digestion can start with relaxing before and while you are eating. Stress can in fact harm the digestion of your food. Stress can divert the blood flow from your digestive system to other parts of your body that are trying to deal with the stress. Focus on the present meal and enjoy your food. The stress will still be there later but you will have a happy stomach.

Acid reflux is also a problem with digestion. Chewing gum after your meals will aid your body in the production of saliva. Saliva is an important part of the digestive process and can help ward off the acid reflux, giving you better digestion. Do not overeat, this is also a main cause of acid reflux. It is recommended that you start chewing the game before you are stuffed in order to give you digestive system time to feel full and let your brain know you are full.

How to have better digestion? Break your food consumption into smaller meals. This helps your metabolism from reaching the starvation mode but will also help your body to digest the food better. Eating in smaller yet more frequent meals helps your body in creating the stomach acid it needs to help digest your food into vitamins and nutrients. These smaller meals are ideal for pregnant women and the elderly who may have a hard time creating the stomach acids.

Another way to have better digestion is to eat your food differently. Eat your protein first when eating meal. Protein portions in your meal take more digestive juices to help break it down. Stomach acids decrease as the meal progresses. If you eat the protein portions first you are then allowing enough acid and time to help break down the hardest parts of your meal.

There are food combinations that can also help you to have better digestion. Don't eat fruit mixed with other foods. Fruit is digested well with other fruits but not well with other foods. Limit your vegetables to less than 4 kinds at any meal. If you have bad digestion than do not eat raw vegetables but always prepare cooked vegetables.

People with bad digestion should not drink any ice cold drinks with their meals. It is recommended that nothing is drunk for about an hour before or after your meals. Drinking while eating dilutes the enzymes needed for the stomach acids to break down your food. When the acid is diluted it becomes weak and does not digest your food properly which causes bad digestion. If you must drink something herbal tea or warm lemon juice is a good idea. For people with really bad digestion it is recommended that they drink peppermint tea.

Taking a walk after eating can also help you to have better digestion. Walking helps the blood move and can really help your body digest your food. A simple walk of about 20 minutes is good enough. You should also not eat after 8 PM. Huge meals should be ate for lunch to allow enough time for your body to digest the food. Allowing enough time for your food to be digested is a great way to have better digestion.
